r/lawncare on Reddit: St. Augustine lawn care company?
April 2, 2021 -

Hi!

I ive in central Florida am a ew homeowner and have St. Augustine grass. Previous homeowners did not maintain the grass so there are lots of different weeds, but it's only a 3 year old house so not too too bad. Called a lawn care company (Luv a lawn) that half my community uses (and they do a decent job from what I see) and after some back and forth, we settled $133 bi-monthly (so they come spray bi-monthly) with an initial $150 for the first treatment where they fertilize too. So a total of ~$900 for the year for 7 applications. My lawn size is about 10000 sq.ft

Does that sound like a good amount to pay for central florida lawn care?

And is now even a good time to start a lawn care program with winter coming? I know it's central florida, but the low temps do drop to the 40s often here in winter and some of the weeds already seem to be dying on their own. So would the lawn care company really be doing anything now, or would it be a waste of money and I'll be better off waiting till end of winter to hire a lawn care company? I'm just worried the weeds will continue killing out the grass making it worse before spring but I honestly have no clue.

I know that a lot of you would say to do it myself, but

  1. I have no idea how. I'm sure I could learn from reading here and YouTube but...

  2. I have a new baby with a young toddler and don't even have 10 min to do research and work on it now. I was thinking maybe after the first year I could not renew the contract, learn to do it myself, and take it from there when it's in better shape.

Just want some opinions. Thanks!
