I understand no pair of sheets are BIFL, but I'm looking for a decent set that will last a long time. I have a pair of supima sheets from costco that are starting to get holes. This is expected due to sateen weaves not being as sturdy as percale weaves. Unfortunately, costco switched to Pima sheets recently and they are itchy.
I'm not interested in Pima or Egyptian cotton as they do not have certification standards like Supima sheets. Also not interested in percale weaves as I prefer the softness of sateen.
TLDR: Does anybody have a recommendation for a Supima Cotton Sateen weave King sheet set?
Edit:
I didn't mention thread count because thread count is not an indicator of quality. It is mostly just a marketing gimmick. Here is a good article by CR.
https://www.consumerreports.org/cro/news/2013/09/higher-thread-count-doesn-t-guarantee-better-sheets/index.htm
To get that higher number, manufacturers use thinner strands of fabric twisted together as if they were one. Then they double, triple or even quadruple the thread count to make the number more attractive to the consumer. “It ups the count but doesn’t give you a better sheet,” says Slaven. “The sweet spot is 400.”
Edit 2:
Our nice costco supima sheets finally died, so we started trying out some of the recommendations here.
(RETURNED) We first tried a lower cost recommendation from Target. Supima Classic Hemstitch Sheet Set 700 Thread Count - Fieldcrest™. These have a lot of neat features that other sheets should aspire to. They have labels to show where the fitted sheet should go and are a nice 20" deep. Unfortunately, after washing and drying them twice, they are far too itchy and we had to return them.
(RETURNED) We then tried another lower cost version from Amazon. 500 Thread Count Cotton Sheets Set - 100 Pima Cotton Pure Sateen Weave Long Staple Ultra Sof. These were returned without even taking tnem out of the packaging. They were far too itchy.
(RETURNED) We ordered a set recommended by several sites from JC Penney. Royal Velvet® 400 TC Wrinkle Guard™ Sheet Set. These aren't listed as supima or Pima, but users recommended them on here as well. Unfortunately, they are itchy as well, although not as itchy as the first 2.
We are now looking at Bed Bath & Beyond sheet sets. They exclusively offer a brand called PimaCott, which seems to be on par with Supima. Their mobile site is awful and their product descriptions could definitely provide more info. I'm looking at the Wamsutta PimaCott 500 thread count set, which is a sateen weave according to the Q&A. 18" deep pockets.
I would like to try some of the more expensive recommendations here, but we need to exhaust our cheaper options first before shelling out $200 for sheets.
Final Edit: I ended up buying costco Pima sheets. After a couple washes, they felt just as good as the supima version. Been using them for over a year now and they still feel amazing.
Has anyone bought the Kirkland 680 thread count sheets, are these percale sheets? There are mixed reviews saying they are and they aren’t and how the quality has gone down over the years for them, so if anyone has anything to say about them please let me know. How are these sheets for people who sleep hot? Is the quality good on these sheets?
