Disbarment

Boy this guy has been such a train wreck. Ruined his firm, ruined his family, ruined the career of a young immigrant woman stupid enough to believe him, now ruined this guy’s reputation. At one point he was one of the most respected lawyers in the city and a much liked prof at the UofA. What a stunning fall from grace. More on reddit.com

I'm not really sure if it's doable now but back in the day my cousin's biological dad was an attorney in Louisville and did something (I forgot what exactly) to get disbarred in Kentucky back in the '70s or '80s so what did he do afterwards? He merely moved his law office across the river into Clarksville, Indiana and resumed practicing law like his Kentucky disbarrment never happened. If you're a lawyer from the area having a license for the other state is almost an automatic necessity regardless of which side of the Ohio River you were on. Anyways he remained an attorney up until he finally retired several years ago but he still lives in Louisville, a well respected member of the community. More on reddit.com

I mean, IS he entitled to pay for the hours he worked on your case? Yeah, the State Bar would likely, in a vacuum, find it to be so if he wanted to push the issue. Now, would you be able to sue him / file a fee dispute / file a grievance such that he would decide it wasn't worth the headache and refund you most (if not all) of your money back? I'd be lying if I said I've never seen another lawyer decide to do this because they're stressed at dealing with the lawyer regulation board. (To be clear, him telling you this isn't the unethical part; he's required to do so before his suspension starts. Him just shrugging and saying "Go find another lawyer" and being apathetic about your case is likely the thing the lawyer regulation board won't look too kindly on) More on reddit.com
