Hey all, 8 interview rounds later and I've been offered a job at Google, London, as a Software Engineer and being asked for my expected base salary and the “equity total amount for 4 years”.

Its not clear what level the job role is (it was meant to be something internal originally), and my understanding is the hiring committee will decide. I think I should be a level 4, but suspect that I might be given a level 3 as one of the eight interviews didn’t go very well.

For some context, I’ve got two years of professional experience and recently been promoted from a Graduate Software Engineer to a normal Software Engineer at my current company. This experience is well connected to the role I’ve been offered and demonstrates some level 4 qualities. I graduated two years ago, so they’ve asked for my uni transcript also, education wise I’ve got a first-class master’s degree in Comp Sci averaging 80%.

My current base salary (after promotion) is around £40k (no stock options), which I think is on the lower end.

I’ve had a search online for what sort of range to go in at and been receiving different values. For example:

• Glass door, for 1-3years of experience it lists £62K-£86K base, £24k-£50k additional.

• Indeed lists around £75K.

• Levels.fyi lists:

  • £77K base, £23K stock for a L3 .

  • £95K base, £48K stock for an L4.

So wanted to ask what I should realistically ask for, the stock options are new to me and have no real clue what is standard. Or if I should aim for the L4 range, or somewhere between an L3 and L4? I don't want to shoot myself in the foot and aim to highr or too low. Thank you everyone for your help I really appreciate it.

EDIT (Late): But was offered an L3 role, £69K base, TC around £100-110K.
