Looking for some advice on bluetooth headphones. I currently am using Bose over the ear qquitecomfort headphones. I issue is I sweat buckets just looking at the cardio equipment, which have made the ear foams on the Bose to start smelling. I have used the "true wireless" which fall out of the ear after a little while. The wife had gotten me a pair that have the ear hooks on them, they seem to be ok, but do not have the best sound.
Any advice would be great, which are the best for you and which ones should I advoid.
Basically the title - sweat a lot on the bike (trainer) as well as on runs and can't seem to get any headphones to last longer than 6-7 months. Any advice on a durable set?

Hi, I'm looking for good headphones that block external noise well that are also sweatproof. I use my headphones (currently some cheap wireless earbuds) mostly for running and gym, and end up having to turn the volume up too high to hear podcasts and music because of background and wind noise. I'm worried that I will damage my hearing by doing this long-term. I also sweat a lot. It seems like I should get something with ANC, and that earbuds would be better for the sweat but I've heard that over-ear headphones are better for protecting ear health. I'll be using with an iphone 13. Sound quality is secondary to noise blocking/cancellation and being good on my ears. Any recommendations for models that would be good for me? Budget is up to $250 or so in the USA. Thanks!
I’m a runner in coastal South Florida plus I am naturally a very heavy sweater. I’ve been this way all my life. Ever since headphones switched from wired to Bluetooth, I cannot find a pair that will last longer than a month. They just cannot handle my sweat. I went through all of the “cheap” Chinese headphones on Amazon which claim to be IPX-7 (all stopped working, of course), then decided that if I’m going to get real quality I need to pay up. I bought the Jaybird Vistas, which lasted about two months. Can anybody who is a heavy sweater recommend a model/brand which last?
I’ve been through a few pairs of AirPods (ugh) and just got a pair of Beats Solo wireless 3 and 3 days in on the latter and I’m already having trouble. They are nice headphones but I’m pretty sure they’re water damaged already. I sweat a LOT and I need headphones that can handle that. I’m also not a big fan of wireless- I like the concept but I’ve had so many problems with devices not charging (looking at you AirPods) or the charge not lasting. I’d rather not deal with the charging and Bluetooth nonsense if I can avoid it. Plugging in and going sounds heavenly.
I know I’m looking for a unicorn here but any suggestions?
Hi all! I'm not an Ultrarunner, but my husband is. I'm very proud of him and support him every step of the way. His birthday is coming up in december, and I really want to gift him wireless bluetooth ear buds.
He has gone through a bunch, but he sweats so excessively, that they always break. Or the bud itself gets soaked, or the little metal points where it connects to charge, corrode from the salt.
Does anyone have a good recommendation for me?
He dislikes the bone conduction kind. So those are a no go.
Definitely a niche request. I am at my wit's end. Because of an ear injury, wearing earbuds is uncomfortable for me. I also lose them everywhere, which yes is a flaw I could work on. I'm hoping to find a pair of over-ear headphones that still offer nice sound quality, yet are rated for at least some sweat/outdoor use. Big bonus points if there is finding tech built into the headphones like Tile with some Skullcandy products.
I have been looking at the Skullcandy Icon ANCs and Raycon Actives, although I know nothing about either set. Does not have to be "pure" noise canceling, but would like to deafen most of my outside environment. Thank you. Budget is very open-ended.
UPDATE: For anyone interested, I went with a pair of BackBeats by Plantronics. They survived a very salty and sweaty 16miler over the weekend. So far so good! Thanks to everyone for their comments. Really appreciated it.
I've gone thru more pairs of headphones than I'd care to admit. In desperate need of truly WATERPROOF headphones. I'm really sweaty and every pair I've tried I end up breaking way too soon. Name brand down to Amazon specials.
Requirements:
Bluetooth
Waterproof
Under $150
Anyone have some headphones they love that would fit this bill?
I've been using Aftershokz and so far they've been able to withstand sweat, torrential downpours, etc.
Plantronics Backbeat Fit. All rubberized, I’ve had them out in the rain with no issues. They also let in some outside noise so you can hear what’s going on around you.
Wireless sports earphones, in ear/bone type. Whats the best, Australian
What are the best wireless sport earphones? Recently had the Mifo 07s and will admit they're decent in my opinion lasted 2 years but have recently stopped working. They are a poor company who can't reply to getting a replacement. So wondering what are the best out there? JBL, Jabra?? Looking for things like waterproof too as I get really wet and sweaty sometimes! People have so far said ESC sounds, Beat, shokz and anker. Would prefer in ear but chasing recommendations
Over the last 6 years I’ve probably spent close to $2000 on earbuds. With the exception of the JBL endurance sports, every pair has either has succumbed to sweat/rain damage, fallen apart, or had battery/charging problems. I can’t remember them all, but off the top of my head, I’ve tried:
AirPods (3rd gen & Pro): sweat damage.
ESC sound Series 3: 1st pair sweat damage. Replacement bud charging problem. 2nd replacement set charging problem in one bud and sweat damage in other.
Soundcore X10 Sport: right bud started glitching and then fell apart.
Jabara Elite 75 & 85: 75s volume would randomly drop; replacement set sweat damage. 85s rain damage.
JBL Endurance Sports: work fine, but they have a touch surface instead of buttons and if a single drop of sweat or rain hits the surface, it will randomly start skipping tracks or turn the earbuds off.
I had another set of JBLs I can’t remember the name of that died of sweat damage because the charge port had a plastic cover that was slowly bent out of shape every time it was opened until it couldn’t close anymore.
I’ve tried a few random cheap pairs I can’t remember that we’re supposed to be sweat resistant but didn’t last. I know BIFL isn’t really feasible, but at this point I don’t care about price if I can get at least 2-3 of reliable service.
I read reviews and bought a pair of jaybird x3s. Worst purchase I've ever made. Uncomfortable, won't stay in ear without special setup, and broke within a week of use due to sweat getting in them.
I need headphones will excellent sound quality AND some that will sustain heavy sweating.
Any recommendations?
Edit:. Thanks for all the recommendations!
Edit 2:. Bought the backbeat fit. Love them.
I have had great luck with Plantronics Backbeat Fit. I have been running with them in the summertime in South Carolina for a couple years now, ears (grossly) as full of sweat as they can be, and they have served me really well. I have been able to run them under water in my sink to rinse the sweat off.
Hmmm, I love my X3s. The stiffer ear foam pieces are the only things I have found that actually stay in my ears. How were you wearing them? Have you tried the over the ear way instead of just the normal way? I definitely had to play around with them for a week to get the right fit.
Bluetooth or wired. Preferably under $50.
I don't think you're going to get lasting bluetooth sweatproof headphones for that money.
I was really happy with these before I moved to my Jaybirds. The sound quality isn't great from an audiophile standpoint by any means, but they stayed in (that's a personal thing though, but they do come with 3 pairs of tips) were rinse-able after working out, and were pretty lightweight. I treated them like crap, they never died.
I like my Plantronics BackBeat Fit headphones. (Plantronics' website lists them at $130. I think I paid about $80 on Amazon.)
They claim to be waterproof (though I haven't tested that), so they're also sweatproof. ☺️ They pack a pretty good amount of functionality into the four buttons they have (one large and one small on each ear), and a full charge gives 6-7 hours of listening time.
The thing I like about them that might rule them out for you is the fact that they're not isolating--they're specifically designed to let outside sounds in. They sound pretty good, IMHO, but if you only work out in gyms or other places where you don't necessarily need to be aware of your surroundings you'll probably get better sound out of a different, more isolating set.
I'm out of fucking ideas. Everything I can find that says sweat proof, I've tried. Nothing fucking works and after a few workouts every set of earbuds I've had shorts out in one side. Does anyone have a solid recommendation for headphones that won't shortout from heavy sweating?
I have been using these for 4 months, I workout and do 30 Min's of cardio everyday... They don't fall out and in my opinion are a solid choice. Awesome sound quality as well. http://www.bestbuy.ca/en-ca/product/sony-sony-in-ear-sound-isolating-headphones-mdras800apb-black-mdras800apb/10325151.aspx?path=e4b2b833bca7c7fb2c7f392b6fca23ecen02
Do waterproof ones exist or is that essentially the same thing as sweat proof?
I just got my Momentum 4’s and man, my ears sweat with these leather ear pads.
What is the best headpne that has a foamy breathable material?
Hello,
So I work at a store that sells a lot of furniture and heavy items. My job, a lot of the time, is to move these heavy items around the store and also to load/unload these heavy items to and from vehicles.
The store that I work at has no air-conditioning. And throughout the day, during the warmer weather months, I sweat A LOT. I also take a stimulant medication throughout the day, and this stimulant medication actually makes me sweat A LOT more than the average person. So on a day like today, where the outside temperature was around 90 degrees Fahrenheit, I was dripping sweat everywhere.
Everyday I work at this store, I wear over-ear headphones. So on very warm days, when I am sweating massive amounts of sweat, my ear-pads become very heavily soaked in sweat.
Also, on a side-note, sometimes if I get caught in a bad weather storm, I am still out in the parking lot loading/unloading heavy items to and from vehicles. So heavy rain can get soaked into my ear-pads as well.
So far, I've had 2 pairs of over-ear headphones. The first was a pair of Bose over-ear headphones. The second was a pair of Sony over-ear headphones.
Now, with the ear-pads getting soaked in sweat and rain, my over-ear headphones usually last about a year before they start to break-down and malfunction. Today was the day my Sony over-ear headphones died.
So I want to purchase another pair of over-ear headphones for work. Today, when I looked online, it seems as though there are now over-ear headphones that have IPX ratings. I've read about the IPX ratings, and was using this website as a reference https://www.audioreputation.com/ipx-ratings-explained/
So I was looking for any recommendations for over-ear Bluetooth headphones that can withstand heavy amounts of sweat and rain water. I've read about what IPX ratings mean what, but I was hoping someone would reads this would have some insight into real-world-results of the IPX ratings with over-ear Bluetooth headphones.
Also, on the website that I listed as a reference for IPX rating meanings, it mentions that "The testing is done with fresh water – if the device is IPX7 or IPX8 rated, it doesn’t mean it can survive submersion in saltwater." Now I assume when they say this, they would be referring to submerging the IPX rated product in fresh water vs ocean water or something like that. But I also know that human sweat contains some salt in it. I don't know if the amount of salt that is in human sweat needs to be considered when looking at the IPX ratings of over-ear headphones.
I also would guess that some who respond to this post may recommend not continuing to use over-ear headphones if I am having worries about heavy amounts of sweat or rain water. I've used other types of headphones, and to this day, I just prefer to continue using the over-ear headphones vs other types of headphones.
If anyone has any insight into this matter, please leave a comment. I appreciate any and all input.
Thanks!
Why not go for in ear Bluetooth? Or TWS like the Sony wf-1000xm4/AirPods? They provide at the very least decent sound quality, good battery, and are typically rated for sweat/water protection so they are good for being active.
Ok, so after looking into Substantial-Bad's link, I have a question.
They had recommended the Wicked Cushions Sweatz ear pad covers for sweat and water protection.
While researching these, I came across another brand of ear pad covers. They are called EarHugz or GymHugz.
They both look like good options.
Does anyone know enough about these ear pad covers to recommend which one might be better for sweat and water protection?
Let me know. Thanks!
Hello.
Does anyone know of over ear headphones designed for exercising and are sweat/water proof?
Everything I've found are in ears, my wife wants headphones for exercising but she can't use in ears, her ear canal is too small and she doesn't like they way they feel (she has tried my Sony WF-1000XM3 and my daughter's Galaxy Buds Pro as well as my son's air pods) so I'm after a set of over ears.
She has been using my XM4s but I'm worried that they will die because they have no IPX rating.
ANC isn't necessary although not something that must be specifically avoided.
A price anywhere up to the cost of the XM4s would be welcome.
Thanks.
I sweat, a lot, so I’ve always had issues with these lasting. I usually buy a popular sub $30 option on amazon and they’ll give me about a year of gym use. But since I’ve been riding, got the bike last November, I’ve been through three such pairs. I usually get the kind that are wired to each other so I’m wondering if I’m sweating into the charge port. Maybe a true wireless pair would eliminate this issue? My inner ears don’t seem to be sweaty.
I'm not sure what other people use.. but I use my Airpods (Pro version) and they work great. Don't know that I'd recommend them just for this situation but if you have them they will work.
EDIT: Added version, the Pro version is sweat resistant
Both on the Peloton and otherwise, I use the Aftershokz Titantiums. They've been pretty rock solid, and I sweat a lot.
I’ve recently been on the market for some overhear headphones for the gym since I got tired of using air pods and I’m asking if these headphones are sweat resistant since I sweat a lot.
Thanks in advance
and i mean sweaty. i currently use airpods and they slip out of my ears from the sweat, gross, i know. i was running on the treadmill and my airpod launched off the belt when it tumbled off my ear because i sweat so much
