This isn't a Synchrony thing. All banks can do this...and do this. It's actually not uncommon for a credit card issuer to do, if they feel that the account is above their risk tolerance. And it might have nothing to do with you specifically - but overall market conditions or forecasts. If the economy is expected to get worse overall, banks may tighten their credit portfolios as a way to manage their exposure to potential future losses.
