First, I want to mention that I found and read this older post:
https://www.reddit.com/r/synology/comments/rlmzri/time_machine_there_isnt_enough_space/
My Time Machine on my Macbook Pro alerted me a couple of weeks ago that it was out of room. I didn't really get why, since (as everyone mentions) it's supposed to erase old data to make room for new data. In any case, I have increased the Shared Folder Quota on my NAS from 3TB to 5TB. (My new internal SSD is 2TB, of which I'm currently using 1.33TB of space.)
Current Shared Folder Size is 2.85TB. The Recycle Bin has never been turned on. It's all been working well for over a year, even through the purchase of my new computer about 6 months ago. The only hiccups are recent.
Now the volume (which I can still see on the NAS) is no longer visible to Time Machine and doesn't appear or mount in my Finder. (Not sure it did before, but Time Machine was certainly able to see it.) I've attached a few screenshots here that may help clarify what's up.
In the Time Machine app, when I try to look at restoring older files, the earliest backup seems to be June 19, 2024 (today is July 3, 2024), so something did back up, but the older backups seem to be inaccessible now.
Have I hit some sort of size limitation? Is there a setting to check? Do I need to start over with Time Machine?
Deeply appreciate any knowledgeable advice. Thanks.
(P.S. I'm kind of a NAS newbie, but an experienced Mac user, if that helps you frame your answers.)
I can see the volume in Finder but it won't mount. The error message from Time Machine No backups since June 19, 2024 What I see in QuickConnect This is what I get when I double click on the volume in Finder.Hi,
I have a DS213j running DSM 7.1.1-42962 Update 7. I have a pair of 3TB WD Red drives mirrored, with a single 2.7TB volume. According to Storage Manager, I've used about 40% of the capacity (1.1TB used, 1.6TB free).
I am setting up the Synology Drive Client for the first time on my MacBook Pro to create a backup task to backup my user directory, which has about 230GB. I'm using a user account that is a member of the admin group on my DiskStation, and in theory, should not have a storage quota. But I keep getting this error:
I've likely missed something along the way, as I'm not too familiar with how this should be working. I'm the only user on my DiskStation, and I want to use it as supplementary backup to my Time Machine backups to a USB SSD (and I'll also sync these files from my DiskStation to a BackBlaze B2 bucket).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks!
