How do you read a T-table?
To read a T-table: 1) Find your degrees of freedom (sample size - 1) in the left column, 2) Choose your confidence level or significance level in the top row, 3) The intersection shows the critical t-value for your test. For two-tailed tests, use the appropriate column based on your alpha level divided by 2.

How do I find the critical value of t in Excel?
You can use the T.INV() function to find the critical value of t for one-tailed tests in Excel, and you can use the T.INV.2T() function for two-tailed tests. · Example: Calculating the critical value of t in Excel · To calculate the critical value of t for a two-tailed test with df = 29 and α = .05, click any blank cell and type: · =T.INV.2T(0.05,29)

What is a T-table used for?
A T-table (also called Student's t-distribution table) is used to find critical values for statistical hypothesis testing when the sample size is small and the population standard deviation is unknown. It's essential for determining whether to reject or accept a null hypothesis in t-tests.

If Tails = 2, TDIST is calculated as TDIST = P(|X| > x) = P(X > x or X < -x). Since x < 0 is not allowed, to use TDIST when x < 0, note that TDIST(-x,df,1) = 1 – TDIST(x,df,1) = P(X > -x) and TDIST(-x,df,2) = TDIST(x,df,2) = P(|X| > x). Copy the example data in the following table, and paste ...

r/excel on Reddit: Why do my t-values in excel differ from my textbook's tables?
July 19, 2022 -
Hi all!
I need to calculate a student's t-distribution of t_(a/2) where a is 1 minus my confidence interval and a/2 is the area under the t-distribution to the right of some value.
I know that I need to use =T.INV. My textbook says that degrees of freedom is sample size minus 1 so I do =T.INV(0.005, 3) (a/2=0.005 and sample=4).
When I do this, excel gives me 0.498162 and my textbook says the answer should be 5.841. What's going on?

=T.INV(0.995,3) returns 5.84090931 for me, and =T.INV(0.005,3) returns -5.84090931. Since the t distribution is symmetric, seems reasonable to me that T.INV(1-small,DOF) = -T.INV(small,DOF). I'd figure your textbook isn't clear about what the function is which returns 5.841 for probability 0.005. Excel's T.INV should return negative ordinates for probabilities < 0.5.
