Probably because of all the advantages given to the T.rex. Since T.Rex was: Bigger(barely), stronger, smarter, more agile, stronger bite, better senses (although I doubt that would be a major player in the battle), etc. In my opinion the battle would be closer than what others think however. Tyrannosaurus was a powerhouse, Giganotosaurus was a speed fighter. Both are useful in their own right. I'd say the battle would be around 49-51 to 70/30 in favor of Tyrannosaurus. Both ANIMALS are cool. Answer from Tyrannosaur_5678 on reddit.com

Giganotosaurus vs. T. rex: Two Dinosaurs With Big Reputations | HowStuffWorks
May 27, 2025 - This is where T. rex has an enormous advantage. Its jaws were bone-crushing machines, capable of delivering up to 12,800 pounds (5,806 kg) of force. That’s enough to shatter bones like twigs. Giganotosaurus had a long, slender skull built for slicing meat, with sharp teeth better suited for slashing than crunching.

[DISCUSSION] T-Rex vs Giganotosaurus
I think this passage from the wiki on Giganotosaurus “the jaw articulation of Giganotosaurus and other carcharodontosaurids was moved hindwards to increase the length of the jaw musculature, enabling faster closure of the jaws, whereas tyrannosaurs increased the mass of the lower jaw musculature, to increase the power of their bite” means to me that the tyrannosaurus, who already have extensive scarring on their jaws from fighting other tyrannosaurs, would literally crush the more gracile skulls of the Giganotosaurus. Tyrannosaurs were simply much more robust in my mind and supplanted the carnosaur type predators where ever they’d met. More on reddit.com

Giganotosaurus and Tyrannosaurus comparison front view.. we always see comparison of them using side view so this seems pretty new. It also showcase their differences in both head and body structure since they didn't hunt the same type of prey. The chonkiness of Rex was insane tho😆
This is why people are surprised when you tell them that Trex is the largest predator the world has ever seen. Because yes, not the longest, not the tallest either. But to understand living beings, their metabolism (how much they need to eat, how resistant they are), their power, weight is the best measurement you can have. It's also why they make groups in martial arts from weight (heavyweight, featherweight...). A snake is longer than an elephant, a giraffe is taller than an elephant, and yet everyone agrees that the elephant is the biggest land animal. Any dinosaur fan should focus on weight more than anything when he debate them. More on reddit.com

August 28, 2025 - The T-Rex maxed out the scale at 15,000 pounds but was also 20 feet tall and 40 feet in length. The comparison is close, but the Giganotosaurus is the bigger beast and has the advantage here.

Giganotosaurus vs. T. rex: Who would win in a battle of the big dinosaurs?
July 28, 2023 - Both species enter the ring with experience as apex predators that hunted some seriously impressive prey. T. rex is thought to have eaten armored Triceratops and big-brained duck-billed dinosaurs, while Giganotosaurus probably took down the largest-ever land animals: the long-necked sauropod dinosaurs, which could’ve been 10 times the predator’s size.

October 15, 2025 - While T. rex had a skull built for powerful, crushing bites, other predators like Giganotosaurus evolved weaker but more specialized skulls for slicing through prey. Evolution carved out different roles for these carnivores, allowing them to coexist with minimal competition.

3 days ago - Scientists have produced a wide range of possible maximum running speeds for Tyrannosaurus: mostly around 9 meters per second (32 km/h; 20 mph), but as low as 4.5–6.8 meters per second (16–24 km/h; 10–15 mph) and as high as 20 meters per second (72 km/h; 45 mph), though it running this speed is very unlikely. Tyrannosaurus was a bulky and heavy carnivore so it is unlikely to run very fast at all compared to other theropods like Carnotaurus or Giganotosaurus.
