r/iPhone13ProMax on Reddit: I want to learn how to take great photos with my IPhone 13 pro Max
February 20, 2023 -

I have had my Iphone 13 pro max for over a year and I have seen people take alot of great photos with their iphone while I havent been able to take any great photos. I want to learn how can I also take great photos with my iphone. So, If anyone could just point me in the right direction or give me the resources from where I can learn that would be really helpful.

Thank you.

13 pro max user here. Have used a lot of phones with the 13 pro max being the current one. You can also check out my profile for more photos I took. Some tips I can give you for better results are: (They don't apply only to the 13 pro max) Avoid shooting with lighting behind the subject. Avoid taking photos when light is too strong or when sun is right above your head, it will create unflattering shadows. You can shoot whenever you want on cloudy/overcast days though. The clouds act like a soft box so your photos look better. Try stepping back and shooting with the 3x lens when shooting portraits of people. The 77mm equivalent is less distorting when it comes to human proportions and therefore you'll have a more professional photo. (my latest photos were taken like this) Don't overcrowd your photos. Find something that leads the eye, be it a subject or an inanimate object. Don't over process photos if you choose to edit them. Less is more here. You can also dm me for more details if you want 👏

I recently moved to iPhone. Based on my experience it is all about the right settings such as exposure, lens(.5x 1x, and 3x), and Grid(for placing the subject on the right side of the viewfinder). Phone produces great pics on proper lighting conditions(that’s why I realized). Also, editing plays a vital role in the look and feel of your photos. To wrap up, I would suggest you to learn about the camera settings first. You know where to find them I watched the following videos https://youtu.be/FRLTOBBkm2I https://m.youtube.com/@iPhone_Photography_School/videos

iPhone 13 Camera Tips for Stunning Photos
An Apple iPhone 13 Pro is especially useful for photographers who are just starting out because it has useful tools for mastering the art of photography. The Photographic Styles tool is a particularly powerful feature. It lets you get pro-quality shots even if you haven't mastered every setting and feature on your iPhone. Think of the Photographic Styles feature as a filter. It's just a filter you apply before you take your photo.

April 25, 2022 - When using the ProRAW format, you might get some colors or over-exposed images when transferring them other photo editing software. This happened with the iPhone 12 series as well, only to be fixed after release. I’d expect something similar with the iPhone 13 Pro Max. For now, I’d take photos in HEIC format if you aren’t planning on editing them through your phone’s native Photos app.

The iPhone 13 Pro Camera Review – The Sweet Setup
October 29, 2021 - It was largely relegated to the role of “the best camera is the one you have with you,” with a giant shrug. The iPhone 13 Pro has taken a very different role than the iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 12 mini of years past. The 13 Pro has quickly become a camera first and a phone second. I’ve shot a range of Live Photos, Portrait Mode, Macro Mode, Cinematic Mode, and standard video in the last few weeks.
