r/houseplants on Reddit: indoor tree low light recommendation
July 27, 2021 -

(If this isn't the right sub for this, I'm happy to follow directions to the right spot)

First time plant owner looking for a recommendation. I have had zero plants in my life, and I'm not looking to start a jungle at home. However I would like a couple (1-2) large/tall trees that I could put in my living room, as I have a vaulted ceiling and want something to take up some of the vertical space.

While I have some south facing windows, I'm in a city so a lot of direct light is blocked by other buildings, and the spot I'm thinking of putting said tree is in a somewhat shady spot.

Is there anything that is more woody/barky (as opposed to bushy/shrubby) that can grow 6-10 feet, will survive in a relatively shady environment, that a neophyte owner is unlikely to kill?

December 23, 2024 - Seconding this - my advice would be to buy something that is already big enough since growth of anything will be slow in low light conditions.
