TLDR at bottom of post!
So, my partner and I recently bought a new mattress. It was a pretty big purchase for us, and a big part of that being that we sprung for an adjustable mattress base - it’s basically like a bed frame that allows you to use a remote to adjust the head and/or foot of the mattress up and down, all the way to a full sitting position. I don’t think this is the exaxt one we purchased, but it’s very very similar to this: https://www.mattressfirm.com/50-series-adjustable-base/5637146827.p?variantid=5637163625&storeid=002154&utm_kxconfid=t6c7xqs93&gclid=cjwkcajw2f-vbhaseiwao4lnej5a4488xug2zst17emjtvlxt_a6juqb_4giofdqpq_02-irkzaf0rocz8sqavd_bwe&gclsrc=aw.ds
Here’s where I’m needing some help. We’re needing to purchase two bedside tables. The problem is, most of the time we’re in bed, we’re watching TV and have it adjusted to a full sitting-up position. When the mattress/base is in that position, or even just partially sitting up, it’s a bit difficult to reach a bedside table. Mostly because the bedside table, which would be positioned against the wall next to the headboard, is so far back and so much lower than where you’re at on the mattress. The mattress stands about 30” tall when it’s in a fully flat/normal position. (If it helps, I’ve linked a couple of photos that show the mattress both in its flat and sitting-up position, so you can actually see what I’m struggling to describe lol https://imgur.com/a/M8HWboe )(please excuse the mess and unsightly bedding - we’re in the process of redoing our bedroom and are still using a crappy old full-size comforter on a king-size bed 🤦🏻♀️)
Currently, we have one nightstand that’s 23” high and 18.5”x18.5” wide/deep. On the other side, my partner just has a couple of their big drum cases stacked up (totaling approx 35” tall, sticking out about 25” from the wall), with an old sheet thrown over the top in an attempt to make it less of a complete eyesore lol.
The drum case ‘table’ seems to be right in the sweet spot, both width- and height-wise - I’ve hung out on that side of the bed, and actually have no trouble reaching the table to turn off the light/grab a bookmark/plug in my phone/any of the various things one does with a nightstand. However, we can’t leave the drum cases there forever, so we are eventually going to need to find an actual nightstand, and a second one for the other side of the bed as well.
Anyway, I guess what I’m asking is…are there any nightstands out there that are designed to function better with an adjustable mattress base? It seems like most nightstands are somewhere between 18” and 23” tall, which are too short for when the mattress is adjusted to a sitting-up position. Also, I’ve found that very, very few that are super wide/deep, which means they sit just too far back to easily reach when the bed is sitting up (unless I were to position them where they’re not against the wall, which I assume would look quite weird since the headboard is positioned against the wall?)
Does anyone out there have any suggestions or ideas? I’ve been browsing nightstands and bedside tables online, and while I’ve found a lot that I love, they’re all just so short. I feel like I almost need something that’s adjustable? so that it could be positioned more forward, where it would be easier to reach when the mattress is sitting up, but also be adjusted back down for when the mattress is in a flat sleeping position. Bonus points if it has a lot of storage, or if it would fit a black color scheme - we’re working towards having all black furniture, so I’m really hoping to find a nightstand that would fit with that. But honestly, at this point, I’m just hoping for something that’d actually be functional with our mattress setup 😂
Huge thanks and appreciation in advance to anyone who has any advice or input, and for just taking the time to read through this whole rambling wall of text!
TLDR: Need help finding a nightstand that would work with an adjustable mattress base (see link in second paragraph for photos), but can’t seem to find many options that are both tall and wide/deep enough! Preferably something that would work with black furniture, but at this point I’m just hoping to find something actually functional 🤦🏻♀️
TL;DR - I have to find tables at least 30" high, and no wider than 12". Ideally, they'd be no deeper than 12"-15"ish.
I have a loft-style apartment, with a strange floorplan. As a result, our queen size bed is tucked into a nook which provides 1'ish of clearance on either side. This is fine for my partner and I getting in and out of bed, but has also meant we can't find end tables. Right now we're making due with some mini organizers I had, but these are very utilitarian and don't match our much more boho-adjacent style.
Does anyone know where to find tables like this? We've scoured second hand shops and online store, and I've even considered making something myself but no perfect solution is coming up.
