Hey guys,
I've bene wanting to open a Target Debit RedCard, but when trying to fill out the online form today it looks like you need to be 18 years of age to open an account. Just a few weeks ago when I checked the form it was 16 years of age. Is it still possible to get one as a 16-year-old?
I was thinking of visiting in-store and asking an employee to help me with the sign up. I'm not sure what the actual age limit is so I came here to ask you fellow employees. :)
Also, do you guys get a commission if I get the card in-store? Should I get it in-store?

It's changing from 16 to 18 on October 1st, so if you want to, better do it asap.

Yes! I just saw this online earlier today! I opened a RedCard Debit Card on the day I turned 16, and was super excited to start saving 5% and such. I’m now 20 and hold the debit and credit versions of these cards, but I do remember only needing to be 16 at the time. When I went to the authorized users page, that’s where I noticed it went from 16 to 18, and I did an immediate google search and found this post.

If you have a blank check it may be easier to apply in the store. Takes about 2 minutes and can be done at any register.

So if target put some small amounts into your account and then took them out, enter the two dollar amounts for what they put in, and one of the amounts for what they took out. Test deposit withdrawal, not any transaction you made

Can someone explain this to me like I am a 5 year old? A worker at Target today was telling me that Target offers a DEBIT card as well as their credit card. She said the debit card links to your bank account so it’s basically the same as your regular card, but now you get 5% off and a $50 gift card for signing up. There’s gotta be a catch right? How is Target benefiting from this at all? Am I going to get screwed somehow?

The Target Red Card debit card is a “debit card” that allows Target to pull money directly from your account without charging them a fee via the ACH network. From a payment standpoint, it’s basically like a digital, reusable check that can only be used at Target. Because it saves Target a large amount of money and increases customer loyalty, they make it so that it’s pretty much nothing but benefit. With that said, there are a few things to know: First, as far as your bank is concerned, it’s no different from writing Target a check every time you use it. That means that it will take a few business days for the purchase to show up on your bank statement, and in the worst case, purchasing something late Friday evening, your transaction likely won’t show up until the following Tuesday night/Wednesday morning. Also as a result of the card basically being the digital version of a check, if you don’t have enough money to cover your purchase in your account, the card will not decline, and you’ll instead be faced with a $30 returned payment fee along with whatever fees your bank adds on. It’s basically the same as bouncing a check. But as long as you don’t mind keeping track of your target purchases and knowing that they’re gonna take a few days to go through, and are careful that you don’t spend money you don’t have, then you’re fine and it’s an easy way to save some money.

Many other retailers let you signup for store cards directly in their mobile app. The fact that Target doesn't have this baffles me. ... I don't know the best way to link their checking acct. to the application without guests having to input routing/acct.
