The correct headline: Weak Target leadership results in mass layoffs
Target really managed to piss off everyone at close to the same time. Its kinda breathtaking, not sure they could have handled it worse. Could have even deferred it to shareholders like Costco... More on reddit.com

November 3, 2025 - What’s troubling isn’t the fact that Target cut hundreds of jobs in one fell swoop, but how the company did it. In today’s economy, layoffs are becoming so common that they’re no longer taking place on a one-on-one basis. Not only have mass layoffs become somewhat of a norm, but the approach companies are taking has become increasingly impersonal.

I was one of Target's corporate TMs that got laid off. Definitely resonated with some sentiments in here. My role was critically elevated as we struggled for at least 2 years coming out of the pandemic with our supply chain. Worked my ass off with incredibly difficult, never-before-seen operational challenges. All to be given the axe as our supply chain stabilized and their bottom line became more critical to them. Huge slap in the face after a 11 year career and any good things I have to say about Target are gone. I will be thinking twice about linking up with another mega corp in my next role.

Target employees say messy layoffs are latest signal of culture shift
October 30, 2025 - Analysts say the layoffs, which come just months before Fiddelke takes over in February, underscore the company’s growing pains and shifting priorities. “Target has some cover here. UPS, Amazon and others have already laid off large numbers of workers,” wrote Carol Spieckerman, a retail consultant and owner of Spieckerman Retail, in emailed comments.
