So based on a few recommendations I have seen online I was looking at getting Targets brand cotton percale sheets. Basically I want something that sleeps cool which from what I understand percale is good for. From what I've read though percale can be a little rough until you wash it a few times compared to sateen. So for anyone who has owned these sheets how did the feel when you first got them? I would plan to wash them once when I first got them before I use it. Also will the bed sheets still stay cool if there are on top of a foam mattress which gets a little warm?

I think percale’s crispness sometimes gets mis-described as roughness, but I wouldn’t say percale is rough. It’s just not super silky or brushed, and that’s what some people are used to. If you wash the sheets thoroughly and make sure you rinse until all the soap is out and then dry in the dryer instead of hanging, they should be very smooth and crisp.

I bought these a few months ago for my guest bedroom (used a few times per year). I washed them first and they were nice, perfectly usable with that one wash. I agree with the other post- it’s easy to misinterpret the adjectives when people describe percale. Whereas sateen is silky smooth, percale has a matte finish, as in not shiny or slick. But still quite soft. I think these are great value for low budget, and easily accessible. My daughter was quite pleased (she slept on them first). I can’t say much about the cooling — they’re my normal. I would not like sateen at all. They’re not going to negate the foam mattress, but they shouldn’t contribute additional heat. I doubt you could do better at that price point.
