Hi all! I recently gave birth but just ran into a privacy issue that might interest y'all. While pregnant, I set up baby registries at Target and a few other places. Toward the end of my pregnancy, I set my Target registry to "Private" because I was adding some PERSONAL items to it (solely to use the completion discount!) - items that indirectly reveal info that I do NOT want "the public" or every friend and acquaintance to know/see (i.e. medical stuff, bra size, etc.).
Anyway, I recently did a Google search of my name, and on the first page of results was a page called myregistry.com with a listing for a baby registry with my and my partner's full names, city, and our due date. (I never set up a registry with them; Target apparently gives them access). When I clicked on it, I was horrified to see that it had my COMPLETE Target registry, showing every item, including the ones that I added shortly after changing it to private, as well as many items that I added several weeks AFTER setting it to private. It was even completely up to date as far as which items are purchased (i.e. the things I used my completion discount for, long after setting the registry to private, are shown as Purchased)
When I set up my Target registry, I had no idea they would be giving access to third-party websites to use my registry, and even had I known, I would've assumed that setting my registry to "Private" would stop it from continuing to update to third-party websites that anyone can find with a quick search of my name.
TLDR: If you have a Target baby registry set to "Private," it's not really private.
