Hi, I’m that one HQ team member! You’re going to get differing answers based on which team you’re talking to; I worked in stores prior to heading over to HQ (and in retail itself for like a decade), and half of my team has store experience. It’s not something that’s typically going to be all that useful for you nor is it gonna be relevant for most roles; it’s mostly just useful as a networking opportunity. As far as how I got into my current position; a lot of it is definitely my performance; I work in AP and I had a huge influence on reversing my location’s terrible shortage culture and re-positioning our store as a group leader. I was also a district trainer, implemented a lot of new routines, led my district on incidents for multiple years, helped pilot three huge programs and was top ten in the company on internals resolution. All that tho is probably like, 30% of how I got this role. Everything else is just luck and networking my ass off. I made sure everyone who could possibly hire me would already know of me, got to do several open houses and was relentless.
