Looks like teak. Power wash lightly to get rid of the surface grime. Scrub with a stiff brush and dish soap to really clean it. Let it dry thoroughly. Sand lightly all over, it should turn a light golden color. Apply a teak oil or seal per the container's instructions. Install a watertight plastic bin with lid inside. This is guaranteed to be waterproof and it's probably best that you don't try to make the wood watertight. Repeat steps 1-5 as necessary, probably annually. I bought a house and it has this wood (is it teak?) storage box that works well but needs some TLC and waterproofing. I was thinking of pressure washing it first, is that the first step? What do you recommend next? It is intended to store outdoor cushions so I'd like for it to be as waterproof as possible. THANK YOU

Sand lightly all over, it should turn a light golden color. Apply a teak oil or seal per the container's instructions. Install a watertight plastic bin with lid inside. This is guaranteed to be waterproof and it's probably best that you don't try to make the wood watertight. Repeat steps 1-5 as necessary, probably annually. Or just let it go gray and simply keep it clean.

Looks like acacia (hard to tell without actually seeing it). Anyway, carefully power washing (below 1500 psi) will make it look like new wood. Be careful because you can damage areas where you are too aggressive, and acacia is more prone to damage than teak. Once dry you can apply finish. “Waterproofing” is difficult when left outdoors. All products will eventually degrade, some sooner than others. There are oils (teak oil), hard finishes (spar varnish), paint, stains, etc. but again, all will degrade outdoors and eventually need reapplication and/or removal. With teak I use a waterbased finish made specifically for teak, but it can be used on other wood - called Kingsley-Bate Protector. It won’t be fully waterproof but repels water and will retain the new wood look for a few years. Good luck.

Burn the insides as well. Lose the OSB bottom before you burn...set that in a firepit and burn it. Scrub off loose char, inside can be rubbed with teak oil. Outside something UV resistant as mentioned...
