Reviews on Sleep Number and Tempur-pedic mattresses? In the market for a new mattress. Tried both in store. Currently leaning towards Sleep Number. Any pre-purchase considerations you can offer? Or helpful buying tips? Thank you!
I can’t decide! I’m not weighing the decision on cost since they are about the same. Has anyone here had experience with both and could recommend one over the other?

We currently have a 2019 model Tempur-Pedic LuxeBreeze Soft Queen. My wife and I both love this bed, however we are ready to move to a King and evaluating two options we have narrowed down to:
New mid-2023 model Tempur-Pedic LuxeBreeze Soft King w/TEMPUR-Ergo Smart Base
- Now has Sleep Tracking technology in the Smart Base that seems similar to Sleep Number
- We know we both like the feel of the mattress. We laid on one in the showroom to make sure the latest model feels like our older model.
- Lumbar support seems interesting, but my wife doesn't seem convinced
- Cooling with our current mattress for memory foam seems good, and it seems they have made further improvements
Sleep Number i10 FlexTop King w/FlexFit 1 Smart Base
- Adjustable head positions is the main selling feature here - I like to be flat while my wife prefers to be slightly elevated to help with reflux (we are also expecting a baby and she will fully be upright throughout the night many times)
- Doesn't have foot raising, but we don't ever use this with our current bed
- Sleep Tracking seems similar to what Tempur-Pedic has
- Ability to adjust firmness over time based on how we are feeling seems helpful
- I tend to change positions many times during the night, and in trying out the bed in store, my wife felt these movements much more
- Didn't feel as comfortable in store, but this may just due to us getting use to it.
The fact that the adjustable bases are final sale seems to be the way they get you to lose money if you end up doing a return - if it weren't for this, we'd probably just go for the Sleep Number to try it out for a couple months. We may also look at the Sleep Number m7 - though they didn't have this on the floor at our local store.
If the Tempur-Pedic had a flex top (and not full split), we'd definitely go in that direction. But, given that isn't an option, it feels like a toss up.
I'd appreciate any thoughts folks here have. Thanks!
Hi! Looking between these two and wanted to get the ~updated~ knowledge on this. In between the sleep number i8 and temperpedic luxeadapt.
Also wondering your thoughts on the split bed vs just one king size bed
I’m looking for an adjustable bed mainly to help with sleep apnea, and I’ve been comparing high-end brands like Tempur-Pedic and Sleep Number to more affordable options like Nectar and Sven & Son.
Honestly, the price difference seems huge, and I’m wondering if the premium brands are actually worth it or just overpriced.
For those who have tried both:
Is there a real difference in quality, durability, or functionality?
Do Tempur-Pedic and Sleep Number actually justify the premium price, or are you mostly paying for the brand name?
If you went with a more affordable option, how has it held up?
I’m leaning toward not overpaying, but I’d love to hear from anyone who has compared these firsthand—especially if you’re using an adjustable bed for sleep apnea relief
I have a Tempurpedic adjustable base bed that is at least 15 years old and past time to retire. In my defense, I live alone and swap the split sides every once in awhile so the whole bed has basically had half the wear. My favorite part of my bed is that puddinging feeling of being one with your mattress. I guess that’s the thick latex memory foam feel where it completely conforms to you. While I’m leaning toward getting another newer one, my folks have a top of the line Sleep Number and rave about it and say I’d be crazy to get anything else. But if I like the feel of laying on the Tempurpedic, would I hate the Sleep Number Climate360 Smart Bed?
What I’m intrigued by is the ability to adjust the firmness (sometimes I wish my bed was firmer, sometimes not), the heated foot area, and the ability to heat or cool the mattress. What can I say, I’m perimenopausal and sometimes I’m freezing and other times on fire.
Thank you for any advice or expertise.
Anyone go from Tempur-Pedic brand to Sleep Number? Just seeing how the transition has been and if you are happy. The two main reasons we are looking at switching is because the bed sleeps way too warm and traps heat and the soft is not soft enough for what we like. We looked at mattress toppers with active cooling and they are expensive, have a subscription and will only fix the temperature issue.
Thanks in advance for any advice. Looking for a new king size for me and my husband. something that is not hot because I tend to get sweaty and also I have all of the neck shoulders back lower back problems (from my physically demanding job). My husband has trouble getting the right pillow situation and shape and number of pillows and he puts his arm under his head sometimes and mouth breathes. His sleep is usually not good, he wakes up several times each night (doctor appointment is on the list of things to do). Our current mattress is 7 years old and has a crevasse/ steep dent (beauty rest greenwood firm. 79% polyurethane foam pad , 13% blended textile fiber batting lyocell polyester rayon cotton).

Sorry if I missed anything, the amount of information is overwhelming.
I'd stay away from purple, just bad experience for my wife an I, it has never gotten better with time. It doesn't do my fused back Any favors, doesn't matter what side sleeper you are
I’m from Canada and I recently got the Tempur-Pedic 2.0. I would say the brand is expensive because it seems like they have their reputation/marketing/quality. Prior to this I bought a bed in a box from Amerisleep and convinced myself that it was good but my girlfriend kept complaining that she had back issues and overtime I realize the bed sucks. I’ve had the tempur-pedic for almost 2 weeks and I notice a huge difference which I’m sure partly is placebo. But I do notice I am waking up more refreshed with less back pain and feel easier and more energy to get out of bed.
As people say we spend 1/3 of our lives in our beds so I’d say get tempur-pedic just because they are so reputable so u know it’s good. My parents always say u get what u pay for nothing is free. I wished I hadn’t been cheap and got the tempur-pedic from the very start 3 years ago.
Hello - looking for feedback from people that looked at or own the Tempur-pedic Tempur-ActiveBreeze or Sleep Number Climate360 mattresses. Interested on how you like them and if you compared both and why you chose one over the other.
My wife sleeps hot and cold, so we went to look at both today. Seems like either of them would help her with that or at least make it a little better.
I also like tech and wonder what people thought about both of their apps? The Tempur-pedic app may be slightly advanced, but can’t really tell without using both of them.
Thank you!
Hullo. Looking for ALL the advice. Middle aged couple.
A while ago, I had an accident and hurt my back. Sleeping on our cheap Serta spring mattress was no longer viable, as the coils would find a spot in my back, no matter what I did. It was bad. So...
More than a dozen years ago, we bought an entry level Sleep Number. And have been using it ever since.
Over the last year or so, we have started to realize that matress was about done, and it might be time to do something different. And as we began to read and research, we became aware of the idea that Sleep Number may not be the end all be all that we thought it was.
Today we went and looked at SlumberLand and saw the Tempur-Pedic memory foam mattresses. We liked what we saw, and felt an immediate (positive) difference. SO a new mattress is now likely. We looked at the Luxe Breeze Medium and Pro Adapt Med Hybrid. So we are considering sizes and pros/cons for each of these models. However, I have a couple of questions...
Is their a best place/chain to make this kind of purchase? A better price or experience?
What alternative brands should we be looking at?
Any other suggestions?
Edit: I mean sleep number beds.
The marital unit and I have a Tempur-Pedic, and frankly I don't see ever owning a regular bed ever again. It took about a week to get used to it, but now that it's approaching a year old...I think it is one of the best purchases we've ever made. Plus the kids cant/wont jump on it. If you're going to get one, I would suggest getting the Tempur-Pedic pillow as well.
/does not work for Tempur-Pedic
We have a TempurPedic. Love it, but it does have its downsides.
Pros:
-
Much less motion when one of us gets in and out of bed.
-
It sleeps "warm" compared to a normal mattress, so it's great in the winter.
-
It's so comfortable I never want to leave the bed.
Cons:
-
It sleeps "warm" compared to a normal mattress, which is a pain in the ass in the summer
-
It's so comfortable I never want to leave the bed, so I'm much more of a slug about getting up.
-
Sex on the bed isn't good, there's no "bounce". That's what the guest bed is for! (Sorry, guests.)
-
You'll never be impressed by a nice bed somewhere else again
We bought a Purple 4 four years ago. At the time, it was their best mattress, according to the salesperson. It began to sag at least a year ago, and now it is uncomfortable and does nothing to remedy my spouse's back pain.
We are considering either a Sleep Number or Tempur-pedic for replacement, but we have to wait a while because of the high cost of both mattresses.
In the meantime, we are shopping for a topper. Any recommendations for someone with chronic back and hip pain with radiculopathy into the feet and neuropathy?
And, does anyone have opinions, advice, etc on Sleep Number versus Tempur-pedic?
TIA!
It's time to get rid of my poor, 12y/o worn-out mattress and box-spring. I'm going to get rid of my bed frame and build a sturdy platform to support the next mattress. I have been having some severe morning back pain which precipitates this decision. I hear really good things about both Tempurpedic-type memory foam mattresses and the Sleep Number products.
I'm a big, fat dude in need of some relief. I'll be adding physical therapy, strength training, and weight-loss to the regimen. In the meantime, I'm prepared to make the right mattress investment. And that leads me to ask for your opinions.
I've met people who love their Tempurpedic mattresses. I've heard other back-pain sufferers swear by their sleep number mattresses. I will soon try to go "test drive" both, but am wondering on your initial thoughts regarding the comparison between the two.
I'm not a big fan of Sleep Number for the reason that if you get the correct firmness to begin with, the whole "use an air pump to change the firmness of your mattress" aspect is completely wasted, and just adds a point of failure to the mattress.
Tempurpedic is great, and there are other great options out there as well. But my opinion (and the general opinion from a lot of people in the industry) is that Sleep Number is overpriced and gimmicky.
I recommend zoned pocket coils and/or memory/latex(Tempurpedic) foam over air mattresses(Sleep Number).
Since you're a heavy guy, you're more likely to feel the "valley" of the air mattress when laying down. It will also wear out differently if you move a lot.
Memory foams can get hot/warm, but that all depends on how it's laid out and if it has holes for heat dissipation and breathability.
Latex foam is expensive, and has a jumpiness that some people dislike.
Ideally, you'd need something that has a medium firm support base layer, then 2-3 additional layers of comfort foam like memory/latex/regular foam with increased softness the closer they get to the top. So you have the back support and comfort. Example: http://i.imgur.com/28Q2YAv.png
Personally, I have something a bit more modular that I made at a friends mattress factory. Specs:
-
Medium firmness foam encased zoned pocket coil base (Substrate, Zoned Pocket Coils, 1" 1.8lb High Density Foam)
-
1" Memory Foam &1" Latex Foam with velcro
All wrapped in a waterproof mattress protector and a 1" cotton topper
