Long term TP owner here. Basically the mattress takes some getting used to (give yourself at least two months, get used to the floaty feel and also the slightly higher body heat retention). Overall, I wouldn’t change it for another mattress. Having run sleep apps, its clear that I barely move all night whilst on a TP leading to much better quality sleep. By contrast, even on very high end sprung mattresses, I end up moving a lot more with greater disrupted sleep. Stories about TP mattresses sagging should be taken with a pinch of salt. Unless you are seriously heavy, I wouldn’t worry about it. I have two TP beds in my house. No sagging at all after 5 and 10 years of use respectively. The only downside I can think of is that the mattresses sleep slightly hotter. This is only noticeable in summer, and the solution is simply to cover yourself with less. In summary: I’d go for it. Currently looking to buy a new mattress as my current bed in a box has become too soft.

Have tested Tempur-Pedic Adapt Medium and Pro Adapt Medium in numerous stores and love the feel/support.

My only hang-up is the countless reviews I see online stating they will do anything to get out of a warranty and the product sagging or dipping a few years after ownership.

I just don't want to get stuck with a $3200 bed that fails in a few years. Does anyone here have any thoughts, good or bad? If you own one, which model and for how long?

I had the same concerns after reading way too many Tempur Pedic reviews; lots of love for the feel, but the sagging and warranty issues definitely gave me pause. I personally ended up going with the Plush Beds botanical bliss after seeing the comparison here https://www.reddit.com/r/Mattress/comments/1h1m2js/comment/mk6u2ux/ . For me personally, PlushBeds seemed like the best choice. It’s all latex, so you should still get that contouring support but with more bounce and durability. Plus, it’s got a great return policy. Still waiting on it to arrive though and I'm excited to try it out!!!

Definitely spelt the brand wrong..

Looking to buy our first King sized, goal is for it to last a while as we won’t be going bigger than a king.. not really a budget but less is obviously better. Originally I was all about the nectar hybrid copper, but we tried the memory foam one and didn’t love it. Sales person got us on a hybrid tempurpedic with cooling sheet and we fell in love..

Guess my question is - are these mattresses really worth 5k? Do they last longer than the competition? What are some other worthy entries to look at.

I have 2 bulging disks and sciatica (worse on right but still a little on left side too). Wife and I both sleep on side for the most part.

Thanks for the help, I have trust issues and the salesperson was really leaning into the whole “Made for NASA” bit of the tempurpedic lol.

As far as durability goes the ProAdapt and LuxeAdapt Hybrid are probably 2 of their best mattresses. The coil support of the Hybrid will have much better durability than their other mattreses with polyurethane foam support(which was reduced from high density 2.2pcf to low density 1.6pcf polyfoam a few years ago), and the coils will help a lot with dissipating heat. As far as whether its worth it, youre paying a pretty high markup when you get a Tempur. For me when I just look at materials, there are much nicer mattresses I would pick for that price, $5k you are in luxury mattress territory where you can get an Airloom, chattam and wells, or luxury King koil mattress. To me laying on a stretch knit fabric over memory foam is not luxury no matter how high quality that memory foam is. But thats my personal preference and if you lay on it and it feels like heaven, maybe paying that markup will be worth it. You are getting a quality mattress still no doubt. And yes, Ignore the sales tactics where they try to convince you Tempur material is magical and totally not memory foam but its own special thing. Its high density memory foam, thats what it is.

As side sleeper that had surgery and have sciatica, sleeping on my proadapt soft tempurpedic mattresss is awesome! Firmness def depends on your weight though I read online soft is good for side sleepers up to 160lbs Def try floor models and feel what would work for you. They promised customer satisfaction, but yet when I continue to complain that the beds give me back pains and I’ll wake up so sore they refuse to take the mattress back

Edit: We have the Luxbreeze medium hybrid now after exchanging it from the firm. It really feels as if we are sleeping on top of the bed versus having that conforming mattress they sold us during the sales pitch. Once you exchange it you no longer can switch it for a different bed. So the 90-day satisfaction guaranteed by the customer service policy is voided once the switch is completed. Sucks cause we are only 60 days in.

Avoid purchasing Tempur-Pedic mattresses. I bought a Luxe Breeze (Firm) king-size mattress (from their flagship store in NYC), and within a year, the firmness deteriorated significantly, causing back pain. The sales agents were deceptive, and the Tempur-Pedic warranty is essentially a scam. Unlike traditional spring mattresses, memory foam doesn’t show visible depressions (unlike traditional spring mattresses) so the warranty won’t cover the mattress even if it loses its original quality.

In the unlikely event that you manage to achieve the required 1.5-inch depression (defying physics & gravity), they will only provide a credit to purchase another subpar mattress from their brand. In the end, you’ll end up spending even more money. Save yourself the trouble and research reviews on YouTube or Reddit to find other horror stories similar to mine, else be subject to a 5k+ purchase that will only last you a year at best.

Six years on a Tempur-pedic firm pro adapt all I can say is I wish I had those six years back because this thing is just awful. It took me like five months to get used to it. My wife really liked it so I stuck it out. we bought a new bed, but it’s taking a while to get to my house. I slept on the floor last night and I feel so much better. I can’t even tell you if you’re wondering if it’s your bed grab a sleeping bag and a nice pillow and sleep on the floor if you sleep better it’s probably your bed never doing the memory foam thing again

Tempur-Pedic, this is unacceptable. Buyer beware ! We spent over $5,000 plus on a Tempur-Pedic ProBreeze Hybrid, expecting premium quality. In just 3 years, the mattress sank deeply in the middle (we literally roll into a hole), and the so-called “cooling technology” is useless. Despite sending clear photos showing the defect, Tempur-Pedic refused to honor the 5-year warranty — they didn’t even bother sending anyone to inspect it. Their excuse? They called it a “comfort issue.” No — this is a defective, unusable mat Do to my current condition and pass back surgery ,I purposely chose this mattress to help with my pain and chronic back issues. At first, I slept well then less then one year later, noticing my pain worsening looking at the mattress and realizing the defectiveness, I even change size with my husband with no success! We are healthy adults, not overweight with any other issues than back pain We followed every care instruction, submitted clear photos, and even explained that the bed is unusable — yet you denied our claim without even inspecting it. This isn’t “comfort preference.” It’s a defective product, and your refusal to honor the warranty leaves us no choice but to pursue further action through the Better Business Bureau, the Florida Attorney General’s Office for Consumer Protection, and explore legal remedies for breach of warranty. Tempur-Pedic markets luxury but hides behind fine print when there’s a real problem. We will continue to make our experience public until this is resolved.”

I know mattresses are not BIFL but I'd like one that lasts at least 10 years since I've had a Tempurpedic mattress from 18 years ago that I loved. It was hot in the summers but perfect. This past year I've been getting lower back pain on it and I've noticed it has soft spots.

I had the worst nights sleep last night so I walked into a store to check out some Tempurpedic mattresses. I ended up purchasing an Adapt Medium to change it up.

I got home and took a nap on my mattress and noticed how different the new Tempurpedics feel from the models 18 years ago... Then I made the mistake of going onto the internet for reviews. Specifically, Reddit. That's why I'm asking here. I feel r/Mattress is either: salesmen, people looking for a mattress, people who have used a mattress for a few months, or people complaining/unhappy.

Is there anyone a few years in with a newer Tempurpedic that hasn't had any issues with sinking?

So far I have owned 2 Tempur beds. Both felt great for a while when I first got them, but then not even 2 years later they started becoming too soft to the point of causing pain. Not acceptable for a bed costing several thousands.

The first Tempur I bought was the perfect firmness at the time of purchace. The second one was even more firm, because my thinking was the extra firm would just soften up to firmness I like. Both ended up becoming too soft. My brother had the same problem with his Tempur becoming too soft as well. Keep in mind I am only around 145 pounds.

Their are even some people reporting their Tempur becoming too soft even after only 6 months. I also heard that 20 years ago Tempur was better quality and didn't soften so much, then after they developed a name, they started cheaping out on quality.

Anyway, just be warned that if you buy a Tempur, 6-24 months after you buy it, there is a decent chance of it losing a lot of its firmness, to the point of causing pain.

I am not sure what is the best bed to buy to retain firmness. Maybe somone in the comments can chime in.

Update: Flipped my mattres around and had even a worse sleep, because my body I guess was so used to the extra soft side, that the firmer side was a shock? So now we have one end way too soft and one way too firm. Oh Tempur why must you be so difficult?

Our other 2 options are Serta iseries hybrid firm or the Airelook platinum preferred Austin.

r/Mattress on Reddit: Tempurpedic horrible experience
January 15, 2025 -

I wanted to share my recent experience with Tempur-Pedic, hoping it might help others who are considering their products or dealing with similar issues.

Two years ago, I purchased a Tempur-Pedic Pro Adapt Medium mattress. Initially, it was great, but after only a year, the foam started to lose integrity and support, sagging at the hips when I lay on it, making it uncomfortable and very different from when I first purchased it. Naturally, I reached out to Tempur Sealy to make a warranty claim, as their warranty seemed to cover sagging.

Tempur Sealy's warranty specifically states that sagging needs to be 3/4" or greater to be covered, and the measurement is taken without anyone on the mattress. However, foam mattresses like mine often lose support without visibly sagging that much unless weight is applied. Despite providing photos and evidence of the mattress's decline, my claim was rejected because the sagging didn’t meet their specified measurement. This requirement effectively voids any meaningful warranty coverage.

It’s impossible for a customer to know that a 3/4" sag rule isn’t sufficient for basic coverage, especially since detailed information about their materials isn't readily available. Customer service and legal only gave me canned responses that didn’t answer my questions.

I decided to take the issue to small claims court. In the pre-hearing, Tempur Sealy showed no interest in compromising or settling, which led to the court date. They lost the case, but tried as hard as they could to stall by appealing, losing the appeal and delaying as much as possible. Eventually, they paid me the full amount plus interest and court fees on the last possible day before facing fines or collection proceedings.

This entire ordeal has been quite the learning experience. If anyone else has faced similar issues, I’d love to hear how you handled it.

It’s strange because they could have probably retained me as a customer, but instead, they created someone who will forever crusade against them. I think they used to be really good, but like other companies, they now seem to rely on their brand name rather than quality products.

I ended up getting a Sleep on Latex mattress based on positive Reddit reviews, and it has been great so far for my wife and me.

I slept on an inner spring for 10 years but I tried the proadapt in store and loved it! I can attest that it does sleep hot. I woke up slightly sweaty on my back. It’s not recommended to add a mattress protector because it adds a layer between you and the mattress, which could impact the feel of the foam.

Got a Luxe Breeze (firm) delivered two weeks ago tonight. Thought I was avoiding any potential issues by getting something “top-of-the-line,” but…

I’m in agony. At first it was just a bit of upper back soreness in the mornings, which I chalked up to much discussed “adjustment period.”

But after the first few nights, I think each new night only gets worse. I wake up frequently, and when the morning alarm goes off, I feel exhausted still, with new lower back pain. This morning I also had a kink in my neck that feels way more painful than mere soreness.

My wife is also on a bit of a journey with it… she reports sore shoulders, too, though not as bad as me it seems. But, she’s also having the problem of her hands going numb, which, uh, seems bad…?

This can’t possibly be the normal “break-in” experience, can it? If it is, how do they expect people to survive the 30 days (or more…??) of pain and terrible sleep?

I’m having a breakdown, and I’m genuinely not sure if I should just keep soldiering on because yeah, it’s normal break-in, or if I should just wait out the 30 days they make you keep this thing by sleeping on the ground, instead. (I’ve had decent luck with that, recently, while we waited for this supposedly best-of-the-best mattress to be delivered…)

For what it’s worth, I’m in the heavier side at 240 lbs. I think of myself as a stomach sleeper because that’s how I fall asleep, but my wife reports that I do often roll onto my side… I know this is sort of a terrible combination, but we had an ancient, not particularly high-end spring mattress before this that didn’t cause me these types of problems.

My wife is much lighter at about 165 lbs, and she sleeps in all sorts of configurations, but mostly side and back.

What should we do…? (I’m kind of just venting frustration, but if anyone who’s not a mattress salesperson does have any sage wisdom, I’m here for that, too…)

Background: owned a Cloud Luxe Queen ($3,500) for about 3 months and a Cloud Luxe Breeze King ($5,000, not cheap) for ~5 years now.

The first one (queen sized) from them wouldn't stop off-gassing. Our entire bedroom would smell awful from it 3 months later so we utilized the mattress store's policy to get a completely different mattress. We replaced it with some other queen size bed, which was great for several years.

Years later we needed to upgrade to a king, so we rolled the dice on another tempurpedic since the first was comfortable other than the terrible smell. This one stopped off-gassing after a week and was generally good (not great) for the first 4-5 years, but in the last year the material is starting to simply give up underneath me (I'm tall and about 200lb).

My shoulders and hips, as a side sleeper, are sinking so far into the mattress now that I'm getting neck/back pain from it. Checked other parts of the mattress (e.g. wife's side) and it's like a completely different mattress in those areas--feels like sleeping on concrete in comparison despite it being the softest mattress they make.

Reached out to Tempur-Pedic for warranty support since we're well within the 10 year warranty and because it's only visibly sagging 1/4" they won't do anything. I asked for help escalating and offered to provide images with weights in different parts of the bed to visibly show how much it's sinking when weighted, which is what actually matters for comfort. Was given an 800# and told they wouldn't help me because this decision is final and can not be appealed. Called the 800# and they're as unhelpful as I expected them to be.

It's clear they have marching orders to deny any and all claims that don't meet their very narrow, borderline extreme metric. They're honestly worse than any health insurance company I've dealt with. I found this post from someone that successfully sued them in small claims court and won, so I'm going the same route.

One thing I want to point out, regardless of the material quality it would be a good idea to rotate your mattress more often. There really shouldnt be a "your side vs wifes side" of a mattress which you have owned for 6 years. The minimum amount of times you should rotate is every 6 months, but really its a good practice to rotate a mattress every season. Then for the warranty requirement, Tempur allows for a 0.75" indention, and when you compare that with the other major manufacturers it is actually one of the best. A typical allowance is usually double that at 1.5", which the ridiculousness of that is something I agree with. Especially since these large brand mattresses are almost all using memory foam, which will often soften well beyond comfort before reaching that level of sagging. At the same time u/Timbukthree makes a really good point. If they didnt use a measurable metric such as indentation many people would just abuse the system to get free mattresses for life. What you can do as a consumer though is go through a business like Costco where you know that they will go above and beyond the manufacturer warranty, and they are more than happy to just take you at your word because they want to keep your business on other items. What we know about Tempur is over the years they have been reducing the density of their memory foam and polyurethane foam support. We are told this is to make it more breathable, and that there isnt a loss in quality. I even see some people in the sub saying that density in memory foam isnt an important consideration. Im personally not convinced though and feel that reducing manufacturing costs is likely a big reason we are seeing this reduction in density, and if they continue down this direction their reputation will follow suit.

I used to be a dealer for Tempur, had just about the same issue on a Rhapsofy Breeze and when I went to Tempur they said the same thing. Switched to latex and about three months later was told by a Tempur engineer at a trade show that the problem I had was a known issue and “totally fixed” in the new beds, but my claim was still denied. Tempur ain’t what it used to be. They actually used to warranty excessive softening but took it out of their warranty about ten years ago.

Title says it, my partner and I got a tempurpedic hybrid mattress back in August 2022 and it is far more firm even after “breaking it in” than the one in the store on display. I toss and turn all night. It feels like my butt sinks into the mattress but my upper body does not, for whatever reason.

We are obviously outside the return period which we are kicking ourselves for, because we were about to return it around the 80 day mark and decided to see if it softened up more.

We put a cheap mattress topper on it from Amazon and that helped, but I hate the fact that a $3000 mattress needs a $100 topper to be bearable.

I have it on a metal box frame that has slats 3” apart as is recommended by Tempurpedic (if not using one of theirs). Would one of their flat platforms change anything about the comfort of this mattress? Do people buy these mattresses used? I’m so upset for spending this much and hating it.

Any advice appreciated.

My boyfriend (M31) and I (M26) are on the hunt for a new mattress. We’re moving in together at the end of next month, and we are in dire need of a new bed lol his old mattress that we’ve been using (old king from at least 8 years ago) was hurting our backs so bad the other night, we woke up in the middle of the night and decided to find a mattress topper in the interim until we buy a new one together.

I have ALWAYS wanted a Tempur Pedic mattress. I don’t know if it’s this odd impression I’ve gotten from watching countless hours of ads in 2000s. Are they worth the purchase at all? If not, what’s another comparable/reputable memory foam kind of mattress you would recommend? I don’t know the material those beds use, so something like that would be sweet.

Much appreciated in advance! 😇

I’m wondering if there is a comparable bed for less money. I was looking at the nectar copper hybrid with the adjustable frame, it comes out at nearly $2000 less. Did I overpay? If it’s worth it I’ll keep it. What other recommendations would you all have? I have never bought a mattress before. I’m 6’5 250 lbs and a combo sleeper. I also have nasal breathing issues so I think the adjustable frame is essential. My fiancé is 5’4 125 lbs and a combo sleeper. Thank you.

r/Mattress on Reddit: My Tempurpedic mattress experience after a week
September 30, 2021 -

My main assessment based on my experience so far after 1 week - pro adapt firm is helpful, high end base not so useful and sales and support are the the worst.

My reason for buying Tempurpedic- I wanted a firm mattress that provides good support for my back. Tried a few mattresses including Intellibed and found Tempurpedic proadapt firm to be relatively more firm.

I definitely agree with others assessment on this board- you get a bad buyer experience with Tempurpedic. Here are my reasons-

  1. Their systems are really bad. No one takes responsibility to help you through the problems they create. We bought the split king proadapt firm mattress with the top of the line base (extend) frame from their flagship store to address my back pain. The order got ‘jammed’ and didn’t go through and there was no communication from the store for 24 hours. We called back the next day and found out that the order didn’t go through and they put in a duplicate order again. Since then we kept emails about both the orders including delivery. Store associates were extremely rude or not helpful, even condescending at times. We tried calling Tempurpedic but every time we called we were on hold for a very very long time and couldn’t get someone to talk to.

  2. We finally got the delivery of the first order as well as the second (duplicate) order, which we turned it down and the sleep tracker was not setup right at the time of delivery and didn’t work. Again same experience. No help from store, Tempurpedic or the delivery team that was supposed to set it up right.

  3. I found the mattress we got was firmer than what we tried at the store. But very soon realized that the bells and whistles were more annoying than useful. For example, the automatic adjustment in response to snoring feature woke me up from my sleep by abruptly lifting the the frame uncomfortably high very fast.

My verdict- The Tempurpedic mattress was helpful with my back a little, but I should have bought the lower end base. Tempurpedic should be ashamed of themselves for selling such high end mattresses while providing such poor customer experience both online and at store.

r/Mattress on Reddit: Tempurpedic woes

Hey folks… so prior to this we had a “regular” / cheap mattress and box spring combo that was going on 15 years old, I slept through the night on it no problem and was never in any pain, however my wife was starting to have issues with it so she recommended we go look at new mattresses

We asked around to friends and family and everyone we talked too basically said how Tempurpedic changed their life, best sleep they ever had, it’s amazing etc , you get the idea

So we went to the store and they felt fine during demos, but that’s literally laying on a bed for like 60 seconds so what can you actually learn in such a short time

Ended up buying one for, and I’m not joking, $7,000 - the Tempurpedic mattress itself was $4,000 and then we got some adjustable motorized base that does massages and whatever else for another $3000

So I thought to myself this bed costs as much as a used car, it better be like angels themselves are coming down and lulling me to sleep

Wrong.

I’m not exaggerating when I say it’s the worst bed I have ever slept on in my life, I toss and turn all night long, I never sleep through a full night, I find it hard to get a comfortable position and I wake up in agony every day to the point where I feel like I need to take some ibuprofen the second I get out of bed

It actually got to the point where I slept on the couch one night instead of the bed and actually woke up feeling normal , meaning the couch is actually more comfortable then this $7,000 bed

Is this normal? Will this go away? It’s been 1 week and the mattress sales man or whatever said it’s normal and just takes an adjustment period and to quote “give it time” and I’ll get used to the new bed - but I wake up every day wanting to scream and I feel like I’ll never get used to something like this in a million years

I make and sell mattresses. A temperpedic is a 5cm piece of memory foam on a 15-20cm piece of polyfoam. Or thereabouts. It's a big piece of plastic. I have a modular system that I use to sell my mattresses, so people can put different foams in and test what they like. The reason this matters here is because, when most people tried the 5cm of memory foam, and replaced it with latex or poly foam, they overwhelmingly didn't like the memory foam. I didn't tell these people what the different foams where, I just tell them told them to try it. So you could say that with blind testing, overwhelmingly I found people didn't like memory foam. The people that did buy the memory foam had the highest chance of calling me back wanting a refund for being too hot, or getting the "stuck" feeling that memory foam provides. I also had some people that actually really liked memory foam. Just not that many, It seemed to me that after years of testing, memory foam became something that I didn't have any reason to sell anymore. I completely stopped using it in any of my layering about a year ago. There is definitely people that like it. And I'm not trying to badmouth tempur. I believe the reason they are so popular is because they may feel better than other mattress in the major retailers. But I also believe that overall, memory foam doesn't hold the body in the correct alignment which causes issues. At least that is my experience, especially when compared to latex which has a much higher ability to push back. But in the major retailers there is not much good stuff. Smaller operations is what you should seek out to solve the mattress problem. Someone who makes mattresses will better understand how to fit you to a mattress than a mattress salesman in a retail store. Also, In my operation, we don't allow anyone to say "adjustment period". If they call up and say its uncomfortable, we move straight away to make adjustments. I understand why many companies talk about adjustment period though, it's because they can't adjust the layering. They have to change the entire mattress.

We also hate our tempurpedic that we paid $8,000 for. We went back to exchange it, did told us we just needed a firmer one. Literal hell. I finally reached out to Sleep Outfitters customer service and they granted us another exchange, but they can’t refund the difference of a cheaper mattress. So we are now getting two mattress on Tuesday for the same price as the tempurpedic. Luckily, we just moved and needed one for our spare room anyway so it worked in our favor but I’d rather have $4,000 back. I think the new mattress is a Stearns & Foster Luxe Estate. Fingers crossed because we’re literally out of options if we hate this one lol.

r/Mattress on Reddit: Bought a Tempur-Pedic after months of searching
February 14, 2024 -

Hi all. I’ve posted in this group a few times already, but my bf and I finally bought a new bed yesterday. We got the TP King sized Adapt in Medium. The store we bought from actually had just got them the week before so what we felt in store was how it’ll feel once it’s brought home, and we tried a more broken in version at another store. We ended up spending about $5,000 including a mattress cover and the Ergo Power Adjustable base. VERY excited to have the adjustable for the extra lumbar support and the fact that i will read a lot more comfortably in bed.

My bf is a back sleeper, and I am a side sleeper. I have been having awful hip pain since our current mattress started getting bad. The TP was the only mattress that made both of us happy. We don’t like regular memory foam because there’s zero support but with the TP and the base having good support, the TP felt SO nice. We had been avoiding even trying them for a while just because of the price tag, but we bit the bullet and tried and fell in love with it. We figured it’s better to get something we love than to settle on something else that won’t even last as long. The mattress people let us lay there for a while and my bf even took a power nap. I also got my bf sold on the adjustable base. It’s being delivered to our house on this Saturday!

I know several people who have TP mattresses and always say amazing things about them. My aunt and uncle have theirs for like 15 years and say it still sleeps great. However, this sub seems to have very mixed reviews. How’s your experience over the years? How long did it last? Do you regret it? Would love some opinions!
