it only requires a few items, is obtainable pre hard mode and gives you great mobility, the quad jump is extremely useful especially when combined with the shield of cthulhu

It's pretty wellrated, most people just don't feel like getting all of the balloons. I settle on a blizzard in a horseshoe balloon usually

It only takes a few items, but I never seem to come across that many balloons or the Blizzard/Sandstorm without significant effort, so I never put it together. They're great for prehardmode, but get replaced by wings pretty early in hardmode. IMO, not worth spending much time on compared to setting up farms, getting shellphone, and other things I'll actually use throughout hardmode.

I got only 1 balloon from the chests on the floating islands which means I basically have to fish Sky Crates to get the others. Also idk if I'm ever gonna find a Sandstorm in a Balloon, are there any better alternatives to the Bundle of Balloons?
EDIT: Yeah I’m not gonna put in the effort to get the bundle of balloons

Most have been mentioned already, but I’ll consolidate based on what I know. To;dr, bunch of balloons is too much effort for the amount of use they get Cloud in a Balloon is a great accessory for pre hardmode, and pairs well with rocket/spectre/lightning boots, which is great for mobility. There are a number of other synergies that work well, but a lot of them are very labour intensive to acquire, with diminishing returns in hardmode. A pair of spectre boots and a cloud in a ballon can get you through prehardmode easily. IMHO, the Bunch of Balloons isn’t really worth it. If you have a lucky horseshoe, the Blue Horseshoe Balloon provides more consistent mobility, and the fall damage immunity pairs well with the extra flight from the spectre boots. Once you’ve defeated the Wall of Flesh, one of your first priorities should be getting wings, which make all ballon accessories redundant. If you can skip straight to frost or leaf wings, they will get you all the way to late game, and if paired with lightning boots can get you past Moon Lord

Am I right to think that wings & terraspark/amphibian boots are always a higher priority?
Between the emblems, worm scarf, ninja gear, the gloves/gauntlet, soaring insignia, etc etc…where do they fit???

Bundle of balloons goes extremely well with high acceleration, high jump height mounts (such as golf cart, wolf, basilisk, gelatinous pillion, hexxed branch, and scutlix), especially when combined with a featherfall potion. Doing this strategy lets you spend 1 accessory slot on mobility instead of the usual 2-3 (wings, boots/insignia, and usually a dash) and is still highly maneuverable. In fact, imo it’s more maneuverable than wings are until you get soaring insignia and fishron/empress/betsy wings.

October 25, 2019 - Saving an accessory slot alone is worth more than any advantages the balloons provide, IMO (and there's no way I would go without fall damage negation). And personally I prefer the movement of the wings anyway; less thinking when I'm already dodging all over the place against bosses. With that said, my endgame equipment is the Scutlix mount and the bundle of balloons when I'm doing anything other than fighting the moonlord.

If you avoid situations big falls then Horseshoe isn't needed at all. With the bundle of balloons and Lightning boots (and eventually wings) fall damage should never be a problem unless careless about your jumping, Worst case I always have some portion of the thruster from the Lightning boots available to get me out of a fall.
