This team offered students training in TTS software in a small-group format for six weeks, and saw improvements in motivation to read, improved comprehension, and improved fluency (White, 2014). Similarly, positive results were found in another study in which TTS was found to be effective in allowing students to access the reading material and was also perceived favourably by the students who used it, especially students in grades 6-8.

Dragon NaturallySpeaking (now Dragon Professional). The absolute best solution out there. It has a small learning curve and is very powerful. If you are on Mac OS then you can look at Voice Control, which is a similar alternative. More on reddit.com

If you’re looking for a free option without a time limit and a good selection of close to natural voices, I recommend just using Edge’s default Read Aloud function. It’s my go to now. Siri’s good as well but it’s picky about which webpages it will read and its use outside that is pretty limited. Its voices though are pretty good. If you’re willing to pay a sub, then it’s hard to beat Natural Reader in accuracy, voice clarity and voice selection. Edit: Natural Reader has a free version but Edge’s voices are way better than what NR gives you for free. More on reddit.com

You might want to check out Speechify; it's one of the most user-friendly and natural-sounding text-to-speech tools available. 🗣️✨ It works great on Chromebooks using the Chrome extension 🌐 The voices are natural and fluid, which could help with comprehension and retention It’s easy to use: highlight the text, and it starts reading There’s a free version, and while the premium voices cost extra, even the free ones are pretty solid It has helped many students with dyslexia and ADHD stay focused and absorb information better.
