10 Unique Facts About Thai People And Life In Thailand.
January 25, 2024 - I was impressed – but for her it was perfectly normal. Oh well… that’s life in Thailand. Vacation is not regulated by the government. Companies decide how many days employees have. So most Thai people have 6 days a year and after working for 10 years in the same company (!) – 12.

What is it that's different about how Thai people perceive the world?
Thailand is a collectivistic culture. If you don’t come from this type of culture you will have a hard time understanding it. Particularly the depth. You are probably from an individualistic culture. You probably don’t know that either, as it acts like an operating system, you don’t notice unless it breakdown. More on reddit.com

Thai people are really fantastic, everyone should experience living in Thailand!
American 41M, lived here both in chaing mai and Bangkok for 11 years. Married to a Thai women that is out of my league. Have two small businesses. I feel a since of freedom here I’ve never felt living in the states. There are so many challenges living here but after awhile you acclimate. I’ve adopted more Thai mannerisms and calmness. I’ve learned a lot how to live a better life here. I kid you not, I’ve either left of lost my motorbike keys about 10-15 times, and almost always And without fail a Thai person went out of their way to help me as a complete stranger. One time picked up hitchhiking stranded in the mountains, family drove an hour out of their way to get my bike, drive me to town with the bike, waited for me to get a key made before leaving saying they didn’t want money, but just friend their kid on Facebook so he can learn English. Brought a tear to my eye the level of kindness I’ll never live in the US again More on reddit.com

Why do people like Thailand so much?

It's the country in south east asia with the best infrastructure but cheapest prices for everything else. It's got the easiest visa rules (visa stamp on arrival in most cases). So it's the country people tend to visit first when they come to SEA.

So basically what you said yeah. But for experienced travelers it does offer some very useful things

  1. the visa rules mean you can enter and exit through thailand to neighbouring countries

  2. Chiang Mai especially is just an amazing places where you can live for 2-3 months spending a fraction of what you'd spend in anywhere else in the world. But while still having access to amazing food/restaurants e.t.c.

  3. Great budget airline hub in bangkok means you can go all over the region relatively cheaply.

5 Fascinating Cultural Values In Thailand » Chai Lai Orchid
June 4, 2021 - What works in the West can be a social disaster in Thailand! The Thais don’t value being right as much as they value allowing themselves and everybody around them to save face and be happy. It is even considered bad etiquette to insist on being right if that makes someone else wrong. Indirect communicators believe that being polite is more important than giving a true response; to avoid hurting another person’s self-esteem. Throughout the country, the most important values that Thai people hold to are ‘respect’, ‘self-control’ and a ‘non-confrontational attitude’. It’s beyond just stoicism.

August 8, 2024 -

Hey guys, I have been in Thailand about a year now, I absolutely love it here, the people are incredibly kind and I love em they seem to lead with their hearts, but there's something about the "Thai mentality" if you will that I cant put my finger on. I feel like people here are seeing the world in a different light to me, I dont know how to phrase it, or exactly what that difference is, has anybody else got a better idea at what exactly im getting at?

October 28, 2025 - The national anthem is played twice a day, with the expectation that people will stop and stand until the song has finished. The national flag is flown in many places, raised with the national anthem each morning and lowered again in the evening. The King’s anthem is played before movies start in cinemas. Many Thais profess an enduring love for their country, extending to religion and the monarchy. While foreigners are generally welcome in Thailand, they will always be on the fringes, even if only slightly.

r/Thailand on Reddit: Thai people are really fantastic, everyone should experience living in Thailand!
January 24, 2025 -

Thai people are really fantastic. I've been living here since 2018 and I am still so impressed with Thai culture!!

I made the best decision to move here as a software engineer back in 2018 instead of Europe. I still remember that I paid for a taxi and the driver dropped me around Soi 39. I walked to a hotel where the owner had a yellow Mini Cooper, and I had a chat with him. The owner of the hotel was so kind to chat that "It's so expensive here lol."

One day I was walking and it was raining heavily when a woman offered her umbrella to me, a total stranger, and I thought to myself that's CRAZY! Because my friends were telling me other stories from Europe (they could be biased as I never lived there) and when I told them these stories, they were shocked and all of them came and visited Thailand and still want to come back again!

In Persian we say "Thailand soil catches you" or "it feels like home from the beginning."

I am married to my Thai-Chinese wife and her family invited me to a ceremony. Even though I am not Buddhist, they asked me to pray in my own way for our grandfather and it just feels unreal.

EVERYTHING IS GOOD!

I lived all my 20s here and now I am close to 30, and the only thing that bothers me is the 90 days report + 1 year extension even though I am married and have lived here for so long (I hope it'll change in the future).
