This encapsulates The Color Purple's relationship to religion and spirituality: a transition from a belief in a single God, an old white man in a long beard, to a God that exists all around… read analysis of God and Spirituality · The novel takes place in two distinct settings—rural Georgia and a remote African village—both suffused with problems of race and racism.

Ubuntu 22.04 changes the theme color from purple to orange

Can't the Ubuntu developers come up with something other than purple and orange themes? For years their theme was poop brown and orange and then someone decided that purple should replace the crappy brown shades. Sure, users can change the default theme to whatever they want but you'd think Canonical and the Ubuntu devs could come up with something that looks more professional and less garish.

Official Discussion - The Color Purple [SPOILERS]
I liked parts of this movie, but the tonal whiplash back and forth from "this child was repeatedly raped by her father, who then took her children away" to "let's have a fun song and dance number!" grated on me a bit. The songs ended with weird edits a lot of the time too - not sure what was going on there, but there's typically a pause where the music hits at the end to know the musical number is over and that was often missing. That's a nitpick though. More on reddit.com

For those who have read The Color Purple by Alice Walker, what was your favorite (or least favorite) part? Also, do you like Alice Walker? I personally love her and am hard pressed to find anyone around me who does!
I admired The Color Purple but won’t read anything more by Alice Walker. She is an outspoken follower of David Icke, a conspiracy theorist who believes that the Illuminati caused 9/11 (and other catastrophes), that the Holocaust is a “myth” funded by corrupt Jews, and that Israel played a part in “purposefully” spreading Covid, among a million other bigoted, hateful ideas. She even wrote a vicious, anti semitic poem in which she called the Talmud (ancient Jewish teachings) poison, and urged people to read it and “get up off their knees” from the power of the Jews. Its so unbelievable and sad that the woman who wrote so poignantly of impoverished Black women and the horrendous racism & misogyny they contend with turns out to be a vile racist herself. The Color Purple is disturbing
This is such an awful take on the source material. Should stories about abuse not be told because they make the abuser look bad? This story is about misogyny and racism and the societal power dynamics that make such exploitation not only possible, but normalized. This story was written to reflect reality. It is meant to be uncomfortable. More on reddit.com

February 4, 2025 - Several of the themes fit into the broader headline of oppression. Men oppress women, white people oppress black people, colonialist oppress the locals, etc., etc. Seamlessly integrating a broad range of sensitive and difficult topics into a strong cohesive narrative is impressive. And I have no problems acknowledging the influential status of The Color Purple.

In The Color Purple, many female characters are faced with a tough choice: fiercely (and sometimes unsuccessfully) fight against men's attempts to oppress them, or completely submit and get trampled all over. How's that for a cruddy situation? The only women able to stand up for themselves without severe repercussions are the ones who are economically independent, and they're few and far between.
