At the beginning of the course in section 1, lesson 6, we're supposed to install PostGreSQL and create a database called "dvdrental."
From there, we are to enter the query
SELECT * FROM film;
After you run in, data is supposed to populate the bottom of the screen. However, when I do this, the data does not populate. Instead, the error reads
ERROR: relation "film" does not exist
LINE 1: select * from film;
^ The video itself has a huge popup bubble that says that if you get this error to try restarting your computer or installing a lower version of pgAdmin. I've done both of these and neither solution worked.
Has anyone else had this problem with the course? Or does anyone have insight as to what would cause this?
Thanks.
I come from non tech background, and might loose my current job. I’m planning to learn sql and start looking for data jobs. What level sql is expected for an entry level job? And how to learn it in shortest time as possible?
Howdy ya'll,
I've been working my way through a SQL course on Udemy (The Complete SQL Bootcamp 2022: Go From Zero to Hero) and have been enjoying it greatly so far. I feel like for the first half of the course I was retaining a ton, but as new topics have continued, I'm struggling to retain them simply due to not being able to practice as much since we've stopped using a larger practice database.
What recommendations do ya'll have for either practicing SQL to make sure I remember stuff, or how to find free, public databases to play around with? For reference, I would prefer ways to practice that have solutions I can reference in case I get stuck.
Right now, I don't have much use for SQL in my daily life since I'm not a data scientist or analyst, but I wanted to learn because I find the idea of interacting with databases fascinating. I'm sure being aware of all the possibilities in SQL puts me ahead of the game, but I want to make sure I don't just forget it all after finishing the bootcamp (which is outstanding btw).
I took a Udemy course by Phillip Burton called Querying Microsoft SQL Server with Transact-SQL. The course was awesome and super cheap. It had a nice sized practice database to work with. As far as free resources I’d say check YouTube, stack and flow and just googling “SQL practice”.
I picked up the skill for my job as a QA Analysts in Insurance. It helped me get promoted quickly It also makes my job easier and someone people can rely on when they need something. It’s definitely a solid skill to have this day and age. Good luck with your journey!
Make a database and fill it with whatever data.
I'm looking at the following two courses:
Khan Academy - Intro to SQL
https://www.khanacademy.org/computing/computer-programming/sql
Jose Portilla - The Complete SQL Bootcamp 2020: Go from Zero to Hero (Udemy)
https://www.udemy.com/course/the-complete-sql-bootcamp/
I'm pretty confident they are both good courses but I'm always happy to hear a second opinion :)
I'm starting to have decision paralysis. There are many courses people recommend, but if I'm going to be paying for one, I want it to be the very best.
I'd prefer one with lots of exercises (rather than merely watching videos), since I learn best by doing.
Has anyone taken this course on udemy, as i am a beginner and want to start learning SQL for data analysis i just want to know how was your experience going through this course.
Hi, I'm desperate for some help.
I started this course and I'm unable to make any progress.
I'm unable to download the tar file.
Does anyone know how to solve?
I certainly enjoyed it and learned a lot but now my question is, where do I go from here? And also how do I practice to continue improving?
Hi there! I'm a non-technical employee at a small startup (very, very basic SQL skills) and my company is offering to pay for a course to help me learn SQL so I can uplevel my techincal skills. I was wondering if anyone has good experiences with online courses, particularly paid ones?
I would love to do some sort of online college bootcamp with live online training that is several weeks/months but those are around $10kish and I think that's a little out of their price range. Some kind of price range ~$5k or below I think would be doable. Does anyone have any good recommendations?
Hello Everyone,
I am about to select this course (The Complete SQL Bootcamp: Go from Zero to Hero). It about $150. It uses PostGRESQL. My question is this the best SQL platform to use? Does it matter which platform I learn with? Which is the most common SQL platform in the industry?
I thank you in advance for your advice.
Hello all.
I've recently started learning python, and now moving on to SQL as well.
I've found these 2 courses now on sale on Udemy for only 9.99 euros:
The Complete SQL Bootcamp by Jose Portilla.
The Ultimate MySQL Bootcamp: Go from SQL Beginner to Expert by Colt Steele and Ian Schoonover.
I wanted to initially choose Portilla's course, since it has the most reviews - but the other course seems to have some more substanse to it (20.5 hours videos vs 8.5 hours). Does anyone have any experience with these courses? Or would you recommend some other course?
Background info: I am currently working in auditing, but wanting to change career to software developer/data analyst/something third related to programming. I'm quite undecided as of yet, but it seems with some Python knowledge for data analysis and illustration, coupled with some SQL knowledge, the most obvious choice for me would be to go the data analyst road, since my degree is somewhat relevant.
Which course will be the better one for me out of those 2 (or even a third if you have some suggestions)?
