May 4, 2001 - The success of "The Mummy" in 1999 surprised everyone, and on the day that it opened, Universal Studios greenlit another sequel. The original (the 1999 one) was a lot of fun because it mixed creepy scares with awesome action and goofy humor. The sequel does more or less the same thing, except that the action sequences come pretty much one after another from beginning to end.

Very violent sequel has lots of action and peril. Read Common Sense Media's The Mummy Returns review, age rating, and parents guide. Grab some popcorn and settle in for some old-fashioned movie fun. The special effects of "The Mummy Returns" are dated but the fight scenes are well staged and very exciting. One of the movie's great strengths is the art direction. It brilliantly creates the mood, helped along by a period-sounding score.
It's a shame that The Rock is onscreen for such a short time. He makes a real impression in the prologue, but doesn't reappear until the end, when he's part-Roc

October 11, 2024 - The original Mummy is not that well written when you pick it apart but it at least felt like it had a clear direction and internal logic. But this one is just throwing everything at the wall and to really no end. That being said, the kid isn't annoying, Rick and Evey are as charming as ever, and the ropey CGI is kinda nostalgic. ...
