The Phoenix Project: A Novel About IT, DevOps, and Helping Your Business Win by Gene Kim | Goodreads
Making Progress There he is again on page 216 "breaking every speed limit", however by this point we also have several other asshole characters for example Steve who just declares that everything must get done while ignoring the massive dysfunctionality of this mythical company, and Sarah the executive who happily undermines other teams while demanding that her own pet project gets any resource she wants at anytime.

The Phoenix Project is a TERRIBLE book.
If you compare it to normal literature, it's certainly wanting. If you compare it to a consultant's slide deck, its stacks up a bit more favorably. Context is everything. More on reddit.com

The Phoenix Project
Just be aware, if you are an IC you might as well be reading Lord of the Rings as far as how realistic this book is with regard to how organizations work and how change is done. If you are an IC your role in this story would be “Nameless Developer 12”, and nobody asks or cares for your opinion. More on reddit.com

The Phoenix Project
The sequel to “The Phoenix Project” is “The Unicorn Project.” I also like “Accelerate” if you’re into DevOps. For leadership advice, I recommend “Turn the Ship Around” and “Extreme Ownership.” Both well produced audio books that are interesting to listen to. For interesting infosec stories, the Darknet Diaries podcast is great. More on reddit.com

r/devops on Reddit: The Phoenix Project is a TERRIBLE book.
January 5, 2022 -

I know everyone on this sub suggests this book, as well as people on my team. The concepts in book are fantastic at a high-level, but the book itself is terrible. The characters are insufferable and I hated almost everyone in the book. It also came off as borderline sexist on the depictions of the women characters in the book. The amount of grammar mistakes made it difficult to read and I am NOT the best at grammar. It truly just felt like some IT fan fiction that was terribly written. I feel like this book could’ve been summarized in 30 pages vs these 300+ pages of fluff.

If you want a terribly written book to understand DevOps, this is the book for you. Otherwise, I think it’s one of the worst books I’ve ever read.

Edit: I do expect to be downvoted to oblivion for this review, but my feelings still stand about it.
