Hi James,

I am Dave, I will help you with this.

Your BIOS is not corrupted and Windows will not boot until that is resolved.

Disconnect the power cable form your PC

Press and hold the power button on the case of your PC for 30 seconds

Wait 15 minutes

Reconnect the power cable and start you PC, can you boot the PC into Windows?

If not, what is the exact Model of your PC, that will be printed on the back or base of your PC.

System BIOS update failed unable to open BIOS image file - HP Support Community - 9440829
July 24, 2025 - It turns out that my hard drive had failed. I put a new one in and was able to install Windows. Thanks for the reply. ... Thanks for the update, Don. Nicely done figuring that out—BIOS update errors can be tricky, and diagnosing a failed hard drive isn’t always straightforward.

No you should use the appropriate bios updater for the operating system you presently have installed. I predict the updater doesnt not agree with the type of computer you have. r/Hewlett_Packard on Reddit: HP Bios recovery - Windows 11 updates bios corruption.
January 10, 2023 -

Had an issue where my speakers would make random odd static noises, and new speakers did not resolve this. So when a windows 11 prompt to upgrade the bios and some drivers I clicked Install(Bad idea!). When the machine rebooted, I was treated to a endless loop of:

8 beeps with matching flashing and the message on screen of:

"Bios corruption has been detected.Bios recovery will begin automatically when you restart your PC"

And when it restarts, I get this message with only an option to Continue Startup:

"The system bios recovery failed. Unable to open Bios image file.

A quick google search, I tried to use some combinations of Ctrl V or Ctrl B or just B keys held down while booting will supposedly load a good copy from the HD. None of that worked!

Trying the HP's Bios drivers, out of the 4 versions for my model only 1 driver would run on 8 different windows 10 and 11 computers that I had access to. Errors are either : "GENERICDRV service failed to start due to the following error:
A certificate was explicitly revoked by its issuer." Or some service would not start and the program would exit giving no on screen messages leaving only event log errors. I also tried this in a PE environment with more errors running these bios extraction software. None of the solutions to those error messages worked on any of the machines I had access to. None of the settings in the instructions existed on my machines, and the registry edits also had no effect.

I was lucky enough to find one that would run, and it only ran on a fresh windows 10 Home PC(So dont give up and try different machines). But unfortunately using the "Create Recovery USB flash drive" option, the boot loop continued. I tried all the USB ports and the Pavilion would not recognize any Bios update files. Time to take a break :(

So this morning after more googling, I decided to try something, the last option in the HP Bios Update:

"copy

Copy Bios image to any file location. (Advanced users)"

So I used a clean usb formatted to fat 32 and pointed it to that. The second this was put in the computer and when the 8 beeps finished, it restarted to recovered the Bios progress screen!

This is a very frustrating experience, and I hope this helps some of you boys and girls out.

r/gigabyte on Reddit: Invalid BIOS image and Can't Read File errors appearing
March 18, 2024 -

Hi friends, I'm currently trying to update my BIOS version from F6 to F7 after a recent CPU upgrade from a R5 3600 to an R7 5800x3D, and I've tried to download the version from AORUS website and Gigabyte's website and both give the error when I go to the Q-Flash menu. I download, extract, restart and go to Q-Flash, and it doesn't work. Am I doing something wrong? Thank you for the help whoever sees this !

Edit: The mother board is specifically an X570S Aorus Elite AX

Did the motherboard by chance come installed in a prebuilt system? If so, that's the reason you can't update. Gigabyte offers a service to system integrators where they'll customize the BIOS, and most prebuild vendors who use gigabyte boards do this and have all the OC stuff removed so you can't break the board with overclocking that they'd be liable for under warranty. You'd have to contact the builder for an updated BIOS, since boards running a customized BIOS cannot run the retail BIOS. If it's not prebuilt, you also need to extract the BIOS file (should end in ".F7") to a USB drive that's formatted FAT32. If you're leaving it on the hard drive, it will appear in the list, but the BIOS can't actually read from NTFS partitions beyond the file name, so it won't actually read the file if it's on your OS drive and just give an error.

I had to use Q-Flash Plus recently and the BIOS file had to be renamed to GIGABYTE.bin I followed these directions: 1-3 Using Q-Flash Plus A. Before You Begin From GIGABYTE's website, download the latest compressed BIOS update file that matches your motherboard model. Uncompress the downloaded BIOS file, save it to your USB flash drive, and rename it to GIGABYTE.bin. (Note: The USB flash drive must use the FAT32 file system.) Connect the power cables to the 12V power connector (connect either one if there are two) and main power connector. Please turn on the power supply before connecting the USB flash drive to the Q-Flash Plus port on the back panel. B. Using Q-Flash Plus Press the Q-Flash Plus button and the system will automatically search and match the BIOS file in the USB flash drive on the Q-Flash Plus port. The QFLED and the Q-Flash Plus button on the rear panel will flash during the BIOS matching and flashing process. Wait for 6-8 minutes and the LEDs will stop flashing when the BIOS flashing is complete. • If you choose to update the BIOS manually, first make sure that your system is off (S5 shutdown state). • If your motherboard has a BIOS switch and a SB switch, reset them to their default settings. (Default setting for the BIOS switch: Boot from the main BIOS; default setting for the SB switch: Dual BIOS) • On motherboards with DualBIOS™, the DualBIOS™ feature will continue to update the backup BIOS after the main BIOS has been flashed and the system restarts. After completion, the system will reboot again and boot from the main BIOS.
