Going back to the whole idea of the movie being very manipulative, I also have an overwhelming desire to see what happens next. I want to see what Truman's life is like on the outside, out in the real world where he isn't being scripted and forced into life solely for the entertainment of others. Of course, this is entirely ironic, because although I'm cheering for Truman to overcome his situation and be free, I still want to have his every move put up on the screen for my enjoyment. It can be rather startling as a viewer to realize this, that we've been sucked up into the twisted minds of the directors and producers of this show, and are just feeding off what they give us, much like Truman did. This is actually one of my favorite films, just because of the success combination of an ambitious idea, plot, and how aesthetically intuitive it is (like with the transitions in colors you pointed out earlier). I think that the Truman show is an example of the rhythm of a film, and there is a synergy between the pace of the story and the pace of the music. You could think of it like an action film but instead of fight scenes we are given scenes where Truman gains an understanding of the world. Piece by piece, metaphorical battle by metaphorical battle. It's a character drama that is structured more like a war movie would be, if that makes sense. Each challenge Truman must overcome on his journey of self discovery, to know himself, to know the world around him, and the true world beyond. I always thought the specific choices were really interesting. Truman's early discovery that the world is not as it seems is accompanied by "Anthem - Part 2" by Philip Glass which has the air of soldiers, of a recruit jogging into an army base for the first day of training. I think there is a militaristic parallel to be found in The Truman Show. And the later tracks, as Truman faces greater and greater perils, the tone of the film shifts and its pacing becomes accelerated. I think that The Truman Show is musically a bit like a war film. The track "Underground - Storm" by Burkhard Dallwitz is sort of like a musical representation of Truman being so, so close to the truth. Here, it is the crashing waves and and booming thunder. Yet it could also be the music of an intense battle. The pounding drums artillery fire. Truman's discovery of the truth about himself and the truth of those around him could be a parallel to the truths a soldier discovers about themselves, about war, about the human condition.
