Everything We Know About The Witcher Season 2 | Rotten Tomatoes
November 11, 2021 - Utilizing short stories detailing Geralt of Rivia’s (Henry Cavill) exploits before he was drawn into the Continent’s great political struggle, the second season will begin to draw material direct from the long-form Witcher novels and offer more meaning to the title character’s meandering.

Not sure how relevant this is but the Witcher Season 2 is currently rated as certified fresh on rotten tomatoes with a 95% score - whatever else it certainly seems to be a major improvement on season 1
For those who wonder what Certified Fresh means on Rotten Tomatoes: "Certified Fresh status is a special distinction awarded to the best-reviewed movies and TV shows. In order to qualify, movies or TV shows must meet the following requirements: A consistent Tomatometer score of 75% or higher. At least five reviews from Top Critics. Films in wide release must have a minimum of 80 reviews. This also applies for films going from limited to wide release. * Films in limited release must have a minimum of 40 reviews. * Only individual seasons of a TV show are eligible, and each must have a minimum of 20 reviews. The above requirements for Certified Fresh status are only the bare minimum a film must achieve to qualify for the distinction. A film does not automatically become Certified Fresh when it meets those requirements. The Tomatometer score must be consistent and unlikely to deviate significantly before a film or TV show is marked Certified Fresh. A Certified Fresh movie or TV season whose score drops and remains consistently below 70% will lose the Certified Fresh designation. The certification removal might not happen as soon as the score drops below 70%; as with CF designation, removal will take place when the score settles. A movie or TV season that loses Certified Fresh status can regain it by reaching a consistent score of 75% or more and meeting the other minimum requirements." source More on reddit.com

8 Things To Watch for in The Witcher Season 2 | Rotten Tomatoes
March 4, 2020 - And, as it happens, a series can only go so long separating its main characters before viewers get impatient (even if The Witcher saga excels at keeping its principle characters apart). At the same time, The Witcher’s short season orders (just eight episodes!) means it is possible Geralt and Ciri will search throughout the North for her and only succeed in season 2’s final moments.

The Witcher Season 2 First Reviews: Henry Cavill and Freya Allan Shine in Netflix Fantasy’s Sophomore Season | Rotten Tomatoes
December 17, 2021 - The first run of episodes featured a collection of confusing timelines and a whole load of expositional world-building for those unfamiliar with the source material, leading to what began as a Rotten Tomatometer score that has since recovered to 68% (as of this publication). With season 2 of the series set to premiere on next week, questions remain regarding the show’s future at the streamer. Does The Witcher‘s sophomore installment fix the issues many had with season 1?

Did The Witcher go woke? - The Geek Club - FFToday Forums
December 31, 2022 - I enjoy the main show… it seems the recent mini series origin story that came out a few days ago went out of its way to cast a lot of color in prominent roles. not that there is anything wrong with it, just that we’ve had a lot of topics on this concept in 2022.

What is your review of The Witcher season 2 (Netflix)? - Quora
Answer (1 of 6): There are ups and downs. Pro: The CGI and monster designs improved dramatically from season 1. If you compare the Striga from season 1 to the Bruxa from season 2, the improvement is incredible. It's like comparing CGI from 2 decades ago to CGI today. That is a very good improve...

The Witcher: Season 4 | Rotten Tomatoes
October 31, 2025 - The Witcher continues to live up to expectations and, for the first time, has exceeded mine. ... It took me a while to remember where all the characters were in the story, and in fact who a lot of them were. … The unfortunate thing is that [Hemsworth] is just not as monumental as Cavill. It’s a slightly gentler version than the mean, hulking Cavill. ... I enjoyed the season and Liam did a great job.

r/netflixwitcher on Reddit: Why do you rate The Witcher season 2 by Netflix so highly?
December 19, 2021 -

On Rotten Tomatoes, 23 critics have rated it 96%, and it has a 79% audience score from 704 ratings. Top critics rate it 83%. So even the most critical consensus says it's saying it's 20% away from being one of the best works in human history.

I don't understand it.

I'm not a die hard fan of the books or games. I'm happy for them to deviate from the story if it makes for a better adaptation. But I also know when something is good. And season 2 isn't it.

Season 1 wasn't perfect, but it was a strong start that had something to say and--whether you liked it or not--the sequencing was a creative risk. It felt like a fantasy-themed version of Star Trek, as a Witcher series should. You cared about the two main characters and felt involved in their journey.

Season 2 feels like a fantasy soap opera. The writing is poor, overly melodramatic, the messages take a back seat, it frequently tells rather than shows ("show, don't tell"), the chemistry between the characters is lacking, the other Witchers feel like forgettable extras, and we're frequently invited to care about characters and their relationship when we've not been given a reason to.

The only things that save it are Cavil being committed as Geralt, the brief moments where the messages of the show shine through, and the good production values. There are good actors, but their talent is wasted on the script.

The Witcher books and games are, like Berserk, a fantasy epic with a deeper message. If that is not centre stage, there's almost no point. And it shouldn't feel like Days of our Lives. Even with the other issues, good writing with a tighter focus would improve it significantly.

I have 4 episodes of season 2 left, and I'm struggling to summon the desire to finish it. Episode 1 was, by far, the best episode.

So how in The Continent is it getting the reviews it's getting? What is it that everyone is finding appealing?

Have you not seen better shows and so don't have something to use as a benchmark?
