Witcher Season 3 is so much worse than the last two seasons - did they not pay for good writers and editors?
It's painful to watch: a lot of boring and pointless scenes, dialogues are badly written, and what is this with characters constantly congratulating each other on how amazing they are ? There is a simple rule in writing: show, don't tell, but apparently writers on the show missed that class. Season 1 was good, season 2 left me worried. I could only finish 1 episode of season 3, just can't watch it anymore. They had great source material and that's the best they could do with it ? I'm not even asking you to follow the books or the game, just make a good show. More on reddit.com

It may be because I haven’t played the games or read the books, but I found that throughout the entire series I never knew who anyone’s allegiances were to, and who the kingdoms were. For instance I don’t know what the point/goal of redania is, and I also thought nilfgard was a faceless enemy that we haven’t even seen yet, just some empire in a far away land. I also have struggled with where everyone is located and what’s north and south. I hope it’s just been the bad writing and other people have felt the same, and not that I’m just a very stupid viewer More on reddit.com

I'm trying to watch all of it because I used to like the first season a lot, but it's often a struggle. When Henry Cavill is not on the screen the whole proceeding seems to go flat. I like Juskier too, but only when he is interacting with Geralt. I can't imagine watching the next season with the change of the lead actor. More on reddit.com

Just finished watching part 1 of season 3, and it just seems overall of a much poorer quality than the last two seasons.
The dialogue is rushed, the editing is sloppy
The visual effects for instance - the first scene where Geralt cuts down the bounty hunters - such obviously fake blood on screen
Characters have become poorly defined, or losing definition - Jen treats Ciri terribly with her fellow witches while offering Ciri no chance to transition, Djikistra is easily fooled by Radovid, despite being a spy master, and having been reasonably effective in the last season. Stregobor offers himself up for trial with an unnecessary throwaway line
Radovid himself is constantly referred to as someone who is way more intelligent, yet not much has been on show to prove that point
I agree with a lot of people that Henry Cavill seems perfect for this role, but perhaps he has jumped ship at the right time. Probably only going to get worse from here.

If anything, S3 is a huge improvement over the previous two. Finally using book dialogue and sticking closer to book material. Characters are written more closely to the books again too. Also, Yen treated Ciri like a total bitch in the books too. The show actually softened that treatment. Also, when does Radovid fool Dijkstra? It's literally the other way around when Dijkstra shocks Radovid with the queen's death and puts him in his place. EDIT: since some are taking the "total bitch" comment more literally than I intended, let me correct myself - what I meant was that Yennefer's treatment of Ciri was far more harsh and at times colder in the books than anything shown in S3. In the books, Yennefer had a much more "intense" approach to mentoring Ciri before they warmed up to one another. In the show, their relationship is clearly different thanks to S2 but also, nothing Yennefer does in S3 is in that harsh tone, aside from the fight at the bathhouse. That's what I meant. The total bitch comment was clearly an exaggeration that I stupidly used.

November 6, 2025 - Why not wait and release the entire series, or release one episode each week? Anyway, regardless of the stupid release schedule, the first half of season 3 is abysmal. The main actors who brought the characters to life in season 1 don't seem to want to be there at all anymore. The script writers are no longer even trying to follow the Witcher stories, they're just off in the weeds doing their own thing.
