I think the Work Number only gets information from companies that sign up with them. I did employment verifications and if someone was using The Work Number to verify past employees they had a code to locate the record. Just provide your company information. Usually your new company will contact the previous company's HR and ask how they can verify employment. Many places use third parties but some, especially smaller companies just verify in house. HR here — We don’t have the time to care this much I promise you. 95% of the time those who are responsible for onboarding/running backgrounds aren’t lining up service dates. Automated employment checks have always been a thing. 🙄 It’s not new. We can only verify what YOU put on the background check. If you’re OE just don’t list the other job on the background (or resume… duh). Also the whole “consent to rerun background at anytime” is mainly for a criminal checks and is only done if we’re told you’ve been involved in some criminal activity. We’re not just running it for our health, we have other things to do. Freeze your Work Number data, only list what you want verified, do your job and get paid. Happy OE! More on reddit.com

Do people working outside of the US need to be concerned about TWN? I'm from Canada. I think the closest equivalent we have here is Verification Exchange from Equifax. From what I understood, employment history is shared voluntarily by the job candidate, not provided by past employers. In other words, they can only check the jobs listed in the resume. Please correct me if I'm wrong!

Just wanted to give a PSA to job hunters out there. I genuinely had no idea this existed until I saw a TikTok a few months ago saying you could freeze this info. Basically It’s an employment and income database. SOME employers report your job history and pay info to it. Prospective employers can access this to verify employment history and income.
I checked mine and had jobs from so long ago that aren’t listed on my resume. and some of the dates / info were completely incorrect. You can freeze it on the website theworknumber.com
I’m not sure how many companies verify through this database but it’s worth checking out to prevent any discrepancies in what’s listed on resume vs what’s listed on your work number report
