Why does the E series seem so much better than the T and X series for a lower price?
Thinkpad X13 and T14 seem pretty comparable, so which of the two would be better? Do the differences in series (i.e., letters) actually mean anything?

Why does the E series seem so much better than the T and X series for a lower price? That CPU in the E is a generation older, not Zen 3. The rest is about quality and warranty.

I am looking to buy a new laptop. Funny enough i had no idea when i started even though i am a student in computer Engineering (Hardware).
I want to work with cuda/openCl/openGl. also i will ned to work a lot with assembler. Gaming is not that important. the Graphic doesnt need to be fast just support newest features (my old one runs on openGl 2.0 and has the old fixed pipeline).
I narrowed down my search to the ThinkPad E540 and the T440. The E series seems to be way better then the T serires and cheaper. Why is that? is there something i should know?

The t series have a far superior quality to the e series, it is truly a professional machine. The e series while having similar specs are not built to this high standard and are similar to consumer machines. Hi all, I plan to buy a Thinkpad. Problem is I am not sure which series to pick: E, L , P, T. I have an old T420 so i know how T series feel. But what about modern laptops?
I'm looking at the E14 Gen 4 AMD, but in my country, E Series is marketed as "for those on budget". So in the long run, it would just break down?

I own an E490, and the device really does feel cheap, like a smooth plastic and aluminum top. E-series do not have the premium rubberrized coating or palmrest texture that you may be used to on the T-series. I've used the L412 and the T420, and I feel that the differences are still about the same for the modern T and L series. The P, T, and X series are what I feel are premium computers. I wouldn't say that the computers would just break down, but the interfacing of the more premium ones is better, and would feel more study against light accidents.

Can't talk about the E-series The T and P series quality is basically the same. I've got a T14s for personal use and my GF has a P14s for her work, and they are very similar in terms of looks/keyboard/screen/etc... except hers has much worse battery life/thermals due to the extra oomph. I'm pretty happy with the T14. I had an old x61 and x220 back in the day, other than being thinner and a bit more modern looking (slimmer, lighter coloured, with a few more curves), it seems just as robust.
