Lenovo P1 Gen 2 loses communication with this dock.
I've got an issue where it seems to just stop working, or at least partially working. My mouse is working, network connection is lost, and it stops charging the laptop. I just received this laptop and dock last week. Has anyone else experience this issue and/or know of a fix?

Hi,
I am 95% sure this setup worked fine in the past, however did not use it since quite a while and hence feel a bit confused as to whether I am missing something.
I have a dead (battery empty) T590 which I tried to charge using the Hybrid USB-C with USB-A Dock I had lying around since I don’t have access to the regular charger at the moment.
I tried both Thunderbolt ports on the laptop as well as swapped the original USB-C cable with a different one. The dock’s power LED is orange and I can turn it on off by pressing the button.
The dock is being powered by the original 90W charger and I did use the “correct” USB-C port on the back to attach the laptop (I’ve seen many people accidentally use the front one in tech support...).
Does someone have an idea? Does the laptop need some “initial charge” with a regular charger to detect the dock?
Cheers!
Oh and I left all the mentioned combinations plugged in for quite a while in case it needed a bit. Also the LED’s on the T590 don’t come on (usually the LED next to the charging port would go orange and the red one on the Logo would flash shortly upon detecting a charger, but that does not happen now).
The original charger is not a 90w one, but a 135w. That's why it doesn't work. I've tried it myself with no success. I am SURE it comes with a 135w
Anyone else having this problem? It seems to power all the peripherals plugged into it, and although it's only spec'd to handle 90W charging, I'd expect it to provide at least a slow charge.
Was going to go through Lenovo's support site but I can't get Service Bridge to open to start scanning. Sigh.
I am struggling HARD. I bought a P17 which came with a 230W brick. Then I paired it with the ThinkPad USB-C Dock Gen 2 (60 watt brick) and it did not charge. Then I bought the ThinkPad Hybrid USB-C for more money per the reps recommendation (130 watt brick) and it still does not work. What dock should I get! I don't need it to be Lenovo, I just need it to charge my laptop, connect two monitors, and keyboard/mouse.
Saved me! This works!
So with this linked dock, if I’m in the US, the dock comes with a 230W brick and the n has two cables coming from the dock to the laptop to provide power and access to monitors and the like? Am I reading that correctly? So if I do two docks from this model, one at home and one at work, I don’t need to worry about bringing a brick to the office, just plug the two cables from the dock to my laptop and I’m good to go?
While I think I’m on the right track with this, I’d like to get some advice before spending more money.
Devices Used:
Thinkpad L14 i3 10th Gen
Thinkpad 40AF USB C dock powered by (not the included power brick) but the FRU: 45N0499 – it says it’s 90w but the brick says it goes up to 112w.
Lenovo USBC-USBC cable that I got with a monitor, probably thunderbolt as the displays work.
Lenovo Monitors – 27” and 24” both QHD
Using DP cables, but can also use HDMI
Picked up the dock (without any cables on the used market for a good price). Not a problem as I knew I had the USB C cable and a power adapter that would make do until I can get the 135w adapter that would have normally come with the dock. I thought the less powerful adapter may limit the resolution or other things, but at the very least keep it charged.
The L14 is my work laptop and I would like to connect it to my two monitors and extend the display. This worked with the 45N0499 power brick – extended the displays on full res without issue. Only thing is that it didn’t charge the laptop or even keep the battery on the same level.
For reference, I have the 40AU mini dock (also connects to the laptop’s usb c power/charging port) that when powered by the L14’s standard 65W brick works fine through the single HDMI port that it has.
Is the missing ingredient here the 135w power brick for the 40AF? Or have I some incompatible devices or doing something wrong?
Side question that I also may know the answer to: will the 135w + 40AF dock work with the X270 i7- 7th gen? (The dock does nothing when I connect it to the x270s USB C port, so probably not.)
I got the the docking station mentioned in the title. I don't dare do plug its back usb-c (marked with a laptop) into my w530 (using c to a converter)as normally That port feeds the laptop with power and I don't wanna burn the laptop. I don't expect that this dock charges my laptop but it would be nice if it could act as a "hub" for my monitor, peripherals, rj45 etc.
