October 1, 2023Why is the X1 Nano so expensive/sought after?
Some people want a 13” package as compact as they can and don’t mind 2 ports. Think of it as a competitor to the macbook air I have a gen 3 now cause the touch screen is matte-ish but I had a gen 1 non touch and that thing was even more special. Tapered near the front so it was very thin and less than 2lbs overall. Even with that, the length is about the same as an x280 and it’s less wide. I picked up the gen 3 with max specs for like $1100 as they were going in their last sale this spring/summer. Still expensive but it’s gonna be my daily laptop for a while and it’s a newer, lighter version of my x280 touch with a larger screen. It doesn’t have ports but that’s what my other laptops are for More on reddit.com

November 1, 2024X1 Nano randomly dies
I have a Nano as well and do not have this issue. I did have a slightly similar problem with the screen dimming and turning off after 60 second idle. This turned out to be a windows setting issue that required a couple edits to the registry despite all other normal settings set to 20 min + for sleep while plugged in.
It does not sound like this was your issue though so most likely defective. I am sorry you are dealing with this after what must have been a long wait for delivery!

I placed an order for this from Amazon yesterday and it will be here tomorrow. Here is the description:

Did I goof here? I want an ultra portable with long battery life for traveling. But I didn't realize that this is an OLD (Gen1) model, now superseded by Gen2 and Gen3. And it wasn't even such a great price ($1280). I was dealing with lots of distractions when I was placing this order and I think I dropped the ball. I would have gotten the Gen2 for sure if I'd been aware of it. Has the Gen3 even been released?

I want an ultra portable with long battery life for traveling. But I didn't realize that this is an OLD (Gen1) model, now superseded by Gen2 and Gen3. If anything avoid gen 2, its 12th gen CPUs are notoriously power inefficient even by Intel standards, much worse than 11th gen in Nano gen 1. Can't say much about gen 3 as I've stopped following reviews closely, apparently it is better than gen 2. And unfortunately neither will be even close to Apple machines. But oh well. I have X1 Nano gen 1 with i5-1135G7 and I like it quite a lot. Super portable and in my workflow the battery lasts for 5-6 hours which so far has been enough.

Hey, X1 Nano is a purely executive-type laptop - decent performance with unmatched portability. Since it's for execs the price must be matched with the target customer. Also ensuring the durability certifications for such thin device may be an interesting engineering problem to solve that may influence the higher price, and we can't forget that profit margins must be met for Lenovo. On top of that corporations get them with discounts since they buy in bulk with other workstations for the regular employees.
