r/AskSF on Reddit: Where is a good place to thrift shop here in bay area?
May 30, 2022 - There’s a bunch of thrift shops, consignment stores, and vintage stores on Haight Street. Some of them are still kinda pricey, but they’ll be more curated and better quality stuff. You mentioned Bay Area generally, so I’m gonna also shout out Black & Brown as well as Moon Zoom in San Jose.

r/bayarea on Reddit: What is The Bay's best second hand/thrift store?
October 26, 2019 -

I have been looking for thrift stores that carry a wide selection of second-hand goods. Ever since Thrift Town closed shop during COVID-19 it has been difficult to fill that void (RIP El Sobrante Thrift Town). I tend to look for camera gear and old electronics. ECO-thrift in Vallejo was my second go-to spot, but what are some places you like checking out for fashion or electronics?

We all know the thrifting isn't great IN the city (see instead "curated vintage" at crazy prices lol)

What are your favorite places in and around the Bay Area for home goods shopping? Looking for vintage glass vases, candlestick holders/candelabras, cool plates, etc.

Willing to pay a good amount but not SF prices. Willing to drive up to 2 hours away :)

Thanks!

December 2, 2021 - Just bought an amazing couch at the local Goodwill? Post it here. If possible, include the thrift store name and location (city or state/province will do) in case someone else in your area is looking for a new place to shop :) ... All the best things to do, to see, and discuss in the San Francisco Bay Area!

r/bayarea on Reddit: Question for thrifters
May 20, 2023 -

I've been thrifting here for 10+ years. Never full time but always a big hobby so I often hit a couple on the weekend and maybe make a couple stops during the week. I also have been going to the bins since just before covid.

I have NEVER found anything like what these people on social media are finding. A pair of nicely faded carhartts or pre-90s levis are totally out of the question. Any "grails" like a cool band shirt or awesome pair of Levi's seem totally out of the question. It seems like people elsewhere can find at least one decent pair of pants or a cool single stitch t shirt within a month of thrifting.

Is the bay area just really bad for thrifting? Again I don't do this as a full time job but still, the difference really shocks me.

r/bayarea on Reddit: East Bay Thrifting

So I’ve recently gotten into thrifting again as shops opened up. Some disappeared sadly. And I wanted to share some of the thrift shops I’ve been to and review them. Hopefully others can share their favorites in the comments as well.

  • Eco Thrift - Hayward - They’re probably the biggest around. I saw a lot of fakes there so be careful of that. They have a decent jewelry corner. Tons and tons of clothes. Lots of shoes and purses. It is so incredibly busy there. They have tag deals. Closed Sun + Mon. I would come for the jewelry and clothes.

  • Savers - Dublin - Also pretty big. Their inventory is spread out across the store, so it feels more relaxing. Not a ton of clothes compared to eco thrift but enough. Very busy. Decent kitchenware section with a dedicated electronic testing section. They have furniture too. I would come for kitchen gadgets and glassware.

  • Goodwill - Dublin - 5 minutes away from the Savers. Very little inventory. Saw a nicely priced banana republic dress but that’s about all that caught my eye. Barely any mens clothes. Worth a look if you have time to kill after savers.

  • Goodwill - Hayward - More inventory than Dublin, but not by much. Lots of glassware. I saw some golf clubs. Worth a look if you’re in the area, again. Sadly the goodwill in San Leandro closed, so this is the only goodwill around now.

  • The Thrift Shop Village - Hayward - Random shop, but found some interesting pieces. They don’t have a lot of clothes, but they have tons of tools, toys, jewelry, books, records, and movies. Not super busy at all, and I got a discount. Closed Sun.

  • Artisan Place - Castro Valley - Honorable mention for the cool vintage stuff, not technically a thrift shop. No clothes but tons of jewelry and glassware. Also not very busy. (Bonus points for TJ Maxx and Ross in the same plaza). Closed Sun + Mon.

I’m looking for a spot with lower prices and a decently sized selection, rather than vintage designer or anything like that. Goodwill’s prices have gone up substantially and I would prefer not to support Salvation Army. Found some good stuff at Crossroads but their prices are pretty high as well, wondering where your favorite spots are?

So far on my list are: Out of the Closet, Hayward Ecothrift, and Mars in berkeley (which is closing???)

r/oakland on Reddit: Are there any good thrift stores for clothes in the area?
December 12, 2024 -

I’m in east oakland, and while I will happily go through Goodwill merch, are there any places out here that are more like… out of the closet, crossroads, any of the places on upper Haight in the city. I see a lot of stores around town (not necessarily in east oakland) that are highly curated boutique type places and that’s not really what I’m looking for, although I do appreciate it.

Does anyone else remember the 2010’s era of thrifting kind of know what I’m talking about? And if it doesn’t exist, would people want it?
