I tried multiple times last night to download and extract Tinfoil but the NRO is the only thing that won't extract properly. I've installed sigpatches, tried different versions, and looking around forums for help to no avail. I've seen people say to use DBI, but I heard the dev was adding malicious code into newer versions so I'm a bit worried to use that, plus I can't read Russian. Is it an issue with tinfoil itself, or could my PC possibly be blocking the file? Any help would be appreciated.

The current version download (20.0 [v2]) seems to be corrupted, it downloads 27mb instead of the expected 229mb, for now you can 'copy' the link then modify 'v2' into 'v1' and the link should then download the previous version

3 weeks ago - Don’t just extract that whole pack, or you could run into the same issue. Just grab the only thing in /switch/tinfoil and copy that over. Make your your tinfoil.nro goes into that same folder.

April 25, 2026 - Has anyone else noticed this? And is there any other way to get the tinfoil self installer? EDIT: I have solved the issue, I didn't install the sigpatches correctly, I forgot to change the file name and remove the .template part. Tinfoil self installer still doesn't work though. I had to use wayback machine to download it. ... Same problem here, Tinfoil self installer .zip file is corrupt, on mac/windows same issue.

New to switch modding. When downloading the tinfoil self installer NRO from tinfoil.io, I keep having a couple of files be corrupted and fail extraction. This happens on multiple devices/OS and repairing with WinRAR didn't work either. The .NRO file does extract; is this all I need, or do I need everything from the zip? Is there perhaps a mirror or alternative source for the self installer that isn't corrupt?

I too am encountering this problem right now. Multiple checksum errors when downloading the self installer. Archive corrupted. I'm not new to the scene, but I had to reinstall after several errors in tinfoil. Never had an issue with self installer before.

I downloaded the Tinfoil Self Installer from their website on both my main system and my macbook but can't seem to fully extract the zip file on either system, it always gets hung up on the .nro

I'm trying to install Tinfoil to my switch but the zipped file has two files that refused to extract.
I've tried 7-zip and WinRAR as well and while they do technically extract, it still gives an error that the files are corrupted. I tried installing on my switch anyway using the non applet version of the launcher but it crashes when it installs and causes a blank application with an endless loading circle in the middle and you can't open it.

Okay some of you aren't understanding what I'm saying. This is being saved and extracted to my computer's drive BEFORE I copy it to my switch's SD card. I went on Internet Archive's Wayback Machine to find an older version of Tinfoil and the files extract no problem. https://web.archive.org/web/20240922010320/https://tinfoil.io/Download I did try to install this one but it sadly didn't work either. I am on 18.1.0 with Atmosphere 1.9.1 on emummc so maybe it's not compatible with the Atmosphere version? I ended up using the applet version and while it does work and I'll deal with it for now, I would much prefer having Tinfoil on the Switch's home menu. I legitimately think Tinfoil is just distributing corrupted files. I also tried to download it on my phone and Steam Deck and they both give errors as well. 2 weeks ago - Okay. Thanks for responding. Looks like it's working now. Simply uninstalling Tinfoil and reinstalling didn't work, but I ended up deleting the entire Tinfoil folder and starting with a fresh download of Tinfoil from their website. After installing it worked.

October 30, 2024 - If i'm not mistake they just need ... but i'll just wait ... If u want tinfoil to work, download the nro version and use title takeover to run it in not applet mode and u can use it fine until theres an update to the installer ...
