It does technically require some plant management, but it’s easier than managing big plants: You can keep a jade succulent plant small by pruning its branches and roots every few years. They can handle a lot of chopping, and you can also root the cuttings by sticking it in soil—easy gifts for friends. For the small-leaf varieties, look for Crassula ovata ‘Gollum’ or Crassula ovata ‘Crosby’s Compact’. You can also do this with Elephant bush (Portulacaria afra), a similar succulent, but I don’t have any personal experience with them. Answer from thebourgeois on reddit.com

Crypto parva, montecarlo, dwarf hairgrass, pogostemon helferi, hygrophila araguaia, rotala nanjenshan if you mow it and keep it in medium light, melon sword if kept in low light, and I know you mention you don’t want to glue them but if you can find some bucephalandras on the small side, you can totally plant them on the ground by burying their roots (not the rhizome though). Years ago I bought a Snake Plant from a thrift store (it was very sad and wilted, sitting in a plastic bag out in the sun.... they still charged me two dollars for it lol). This plant grew A LOT and I had to buy a larger pot for it, then I bought a second pot to move the rest of the plants into. Then I just gave it away to my friends.
Are there any plants that will live forever in a small to medium sized pot? I like having plants in my apartment but I don't want to add "plant management" to my ever-increasing to-do list. Thank you for any help.

If you want something that truly stays the same size while still being alive try hoya kerii hearts, they can't grow without a piece of stem being attached to the leaf so they just stay a little heart in a pot, they come in 2 types of variegation and sometimes splash too. Lots of other hoya can stay in small pots too but will still grow long. Cacti are also good for small pots but you need to have enough light for them or they will get leggy or suffer root rot, hoya can handle less light but you still dont want to overwater them, wait until they're completely dry and their leaf(s) start to get a bit bendy before giving them a good soak. The less light generally the less water a plant needs

January 24, 2022 - Finding small terrarium plants that will fit into the most minute of containers can be a real challenge. And even then, you’ll want to be sure that they’ll stay small. New Collection: Tiny Plants – Costa Farms
Varieties in the Tiny Plants Collection are grown in small (you might even call them tiny!) 2.5-inch-wide pots. These starterplants range from about 2 inches tall (from the bottom f the pot to the top of the plant) to about 4 inches tall, depending on the specific type. To ensure there's a perfect plant in the collection for everyone, we've grown more than 40 different selections, from classics for terrariums such as Fittonia and Hemigraphis (Waffle Plant) to low-care varieties like Peperomia obtusifolia and Variegated Rubber Tree (Ficus Shivereana) to trendy varieties like Alocasia cuprea and Philodendron Silver Sword.
