Hi everyone,
I’m in the process of moving to Denver from out of state and was looking at the DMV page for registering a vehicle and obtaining a license. Looking at this page (https://dmv.colorado.gov/new-to-colorado), I’m not sure I follow as the section ‘Vehicle Title’ states to just do a VIN verification but the following section ‘Vehicles - Fast Facts’ states that you need to convert an out of state title to a Colorado title. The out of state title is in my name, I have in hand, and have owned the vehicle for about 5 years.
A few questions: Has anyone recently gone through this process? Does presenting the VIN verification and out of state title at the DMV meet the reqs for CO title conversion? Do you have to wait until the new CO title is mailed (4-6 weeks) before you can actually register the vehicle and get new tags/plates or is this done all at once?

I brought my inspection, VIN verification, and out-of-state title and they converted it to a Colorado title on-site. I left the DMV with the new title and license plates in hand. Edited to add: This was in Arapahoe County.

CO title clerk here … Heads up if it’s a truck new Colorado policy requires it be weighed if there is not a weight on the title . Many states don’t list weight on title.

How long after submitting payment did your permanent license plates take to arrive by mail? DMV says “up to 21 days”. Our temps expire over the Holiday weekend and we’ll be heading out to Teton (Wyoming) on expired tags. Dealer can’t issue new temps because the Title is registered to Denver. A friend at work said hers were delivered in a week. What’re the odds? We plan to bring the notice and proof of payment/confirmation and will eat the ticket if needed but wondering if anyone else has had a shorter than expected delivery timeframe? TIA!

Check your paperwork from the dealership, I was waiting for ages and the DMV was clueless, ended up I had everything I needed to get a title issued the whole time

Hi! I work at the DMV in DougCo! Are you waiting for plates that you already ordered? The title complete notice doesn’t mean you automatically get plates. If you ordered plates online, they are a bit backed up right now because CCI is doing a prison audit. You can go to your county DMV and get an extension on the temps.
