r/london on Reddit: TJ Maxx vs TK Maxx...how do they compare?
18 September 2014 -
I just moved to London, and I want to check out TK MAxx, since TJ was favorite store in the States. I'm just curious if it's just as good for finding good deals?? Thanks!

To my knowledge they are exactly the same store - TJ Maxx is the original US name which they changed to avoid confusion when they launched in the UK due to a (shitty) department store named TJ Hughes.

They're both awful soulless places full of relatively cheap designer label clothes. What more is there to know? That said, I suspect our 'deals' aren't as good as the TJ's, as clothes are well cheap over there, but there's still a bargain or two to be had.

TK / TJ Maxx quality question?
Yes and no. The quality of items from the "Major Brands" are not the same, they may be in fact licenced brands for TJX. Check your labels. No not that one, but the one down by the care label... you might find a tiny TJX... That says it's not a Ted baker shirt, but a "Ted baker by TJX". Not a counterfeit, rather a licenced product. Think Gucci watch or Mont Blanc Cologne. We know gucci is not a watchmaker and MontBlanc has no fragrance department, They licenced their name for a product. Does Ted baker Have quality standards for the Licencing agreements? Of course. Are they the same standards as in house products? Not even close. It's one of the reasons you can't find the same designs at a Ted Baker retailer as you would at a TJX store. More on reddit.com
TK Maxx, success stories?
I've had luck at TJ Maxx, but the way you have success there is similar to achieving success at a thrift store- go often, expect to frequently leave empty handed. It's like every 4-5 times I go, I find an item or two I like. If I want something specific, I get it elsewhere. I think it also depends on what you're looking for. I have much better luck with casual wear. I don't think they have good quality button downs or slacks imo. But I've got several pair of field pants and a cool t shirt or two there. I've even found a nice pair of ck jeans that fit me very well for like 20ish, but that was a lucky find. It's also a great place to get staples like undershirts, underwear, and socks. TK Maxx and TJ Maxx are essentially the same store under the parent company TJX Companies, but they differ in name and some regional features. The name “TK Maxx” is used in Europe, including Ireland, to avoid conflicts with a pre-existing UK retailer named TJ Hughes. Both stores offer a similar off-price model, selling discounted designer clothing, accessories, and home goods. However, there are differences in inventory based on regional preferences. TK Maxx in Dublin might stock more European luxury brands and high-end items under its “Gold Label” section, while TJ Maxx in the U.S. leans towards American designers and a broader selection of home goods. Additionally, store sizes in Europe tend to be smaller, reflecting the compact retail spaces common there ##TKMaxx ##DublinShopping ##TKMaxxFinds ##IrishRetail ##BargainShopping ##DublinStyle ##GoldLabelDeals ##DiscountShopping ##EuropeanBrands ##TKMaxxIreland | TikTok
