r/TorontoMetU on Reddit: Is a 92.5% HS average good enough for TMU Computer Science?
August 5, 2023 -
sorry i know this kind of post is annoying lol i just see that on the TMU website it says mid 90's and I want to get a good gist of what my chances are because as a 105 applicant it costs a lot to apply on OUAC. i appreciate it if anyone knows what the cutoff is or replies with what average they got in with (for 2023).

This is surprising to find myself saying but you’re a bit low for TMU cs this year honestly. Maybe do better in your courses, take easier courses, or OVS it for higher marks.

I've applied and got accepted into tmu but I'm wondering how it's like if i wanna consider. If you are currently taking the CS program here could you please tell me how you feel about it?

To start off, comp sci and the IT industry is heavily saturated. It's a struggle for ppl to get CS coop placement. But the program itself is okay and good. Typically you would need to work harder than the kid who go to ivey schools for compsci such as waterloo, etc.

Congratulations on getting accepted! Overall it's not a difficult program, especially if you already know how to code. You take fewer math courses compared to universities like U of T, and unfortunately a lot of compsci elective courses listed on the website never actually run. If you really want to delve into the arcana of computer science and are interested in the academic side of things then Ryerson CS is definitely not the place for you, but if you're looking for a relatively undemanding program with a functional co-op office (not that they help much) that gives you more time to do self-learning and personal projects, then it's a good choice. If you work hard on your own time then with some luck you'll get good results (I know students who have gotten FAANG and FAANG-tier internships in the last year), and if you coast you'll get absolutely nothing in this tough job market.
