Do you guys think any of the songs Taylor wrote was written for Tom Hiddleston?
Is anyone else surprised by the treatment Tom Hiddleston got on the album?
Genuinely surprised by the way she treats Tom on the album. I didn't really get an apologetic vibe at all, rather a "sucks to suck" attitude. Truthfully, Tom was so gracious and kind regarding their breakup, I'm shocked she would try and mess with that.
I do agree that her songs might not be 100% accurate representations about what happened.
Someone said that her love songs really seem like they're about Calvin and then peppered with new info to make them seem about Joe. All the stuff about islands and beaches felt so Calvin to me.

I am of the mind that many songs are about a mix of people or about no one at all. I am sure that Taylor sometimes sits down to write a song about a particular person or situation, but I’m also pretty sure that sometimes that isn’t compatible with the songwriting process. Songwriting is HARD. I bet more of the conversation is about the theory and technical elements of the music and the composition of the album that shape the song than Taylor’s love life directly. Especially for one as highly metaphorical and conceptual as MR, I bet Taylor makes creative decisions in service to the song, not to the accuracy of the story.
Fearless, for example, one of her best love songs ever is admittedly about a date she had never had at that point in time, Taylor writes autobiographically of course but she also can pull from her imagination just as well.

My general impression is that their relationship was too much under spotlight and a quick passing thing that did not transpire any song-invoking inspiration. She pretty much blocked out media and started a more stable relationship with Joe Alwyn afterwards. I really like Tom Hiddleston personally though, it would be cool if one of her songs was about him. But all I could think of so far is this line in "Gorgeous" :
And I got a boyfriend, he's older than us
He's in the club doing, I don't know what.
him being the boyfriend mentioned here lol. Not exactly a positive spotlight hahaha
P.S. I know this shouldn't be like any of our business, but listening to her songs again and again, one wonders what or who inspired that lol.
Getaway Car is one of the best songs on the album but seems kind of dismissive and almost harsh in a way towards her relationship with Tom and it's really surprising to me. I think most of us knew that Hiddleswift was a rebound on Taylor's end but their relationship still seemed so endearing, with her meeting his mom and the pictures of them looking so sweet with each other in restaurants. Not to mention the kind way he's spoken about her since then.
Honestly I thought Calvin Harris would recieve a bit of heat on the album given his Twitter meltdown and the Nils Sjoberg drama. There's the references to wanting to leave him and him chasing her in Getaway Car, but other than that Dancing With Our Hands Tied goes pretty easy on him.

I think she kinda blames herself more, for letting him down and making him think he was anything more than a getaway car.
