We built this island inside of our apartment and I think there’s a good chance it cannot be removed unless disassembled (long, narrow hallway leading to the door). I am hoping to sell it and recoup some cost, but want to be sure it’s even useable if sold broken down. How much would be a reasonable resale price ($399 new)?

I haven't assembled this particular piece but generally, the point of Ikea furniture is that it can be re-assembled. Unless you glued it, or stripped the screws, it should be fine. Lay it down on a blanket or some cardboard to protect the piece and your floors, then just follow the directions in reverse. (You can download pdf from Ikea.) If the screws are stripped, you can try putting a rubber band on top and using a (manual) screwdriver through that. Collect them in a bag, label, and tape them on to the side, even if they are stripped, so the buyer can replace them with the right size. If it's glued, I wouldn't disassemble it. (In general, I wouldn't disassemble unless requested. Take photos of the actual unit before you disassemble, only posting stock photos reads scammy.) IIRC this island is around 30 inches wide, so it should clear the door. If you need a little more space, it might be easier to take the door off the hinges. For pricing, search for similar items for sale, compare prices, notice how long they have been listed, and use that as a guide, it really depends on where you are/how close Ikea is. If you want it to move fast, price lower, if you want to get more money out of it, take more and better pictures, +/or offer delivery. In my market, where it's pretty low cost to get items sent to a pickup locker in walking range, I see a lot of Ikea furniture priced too high - it's one thing for unique or discontinued pieces but if it's something I can go buy new, I'm going to need a significant price incentive to give up on the convenience, and security, of buying directly from IKEA.

Never disasebled that one specifically, but disasembled ones with similar construction (those "twisiting" anchors) It basically can't be done without breaking a few dowels. You;ll need to drill them out later and put in new ones. Other than that, it's pretty easy. As for how. Reach under and unscrew all the twisty bits so you can remove the top. Then flip it on it's side, unscrew the twisting bits, and lift off one end. Removing any remaining dowels. Pull out the looser braces Then flip it over and do the same on the opposite side. Basically, the reverse of the instructions. To facilitate re-assembly, of ikea furniture I sometimes replace screws with threaded inserts and bolts, you could do the same with dowels where you don't find it too ugly. Removing the top is pretty reasonable, so if you just want to do it reduce the weight, I'd encourage that. Disassembly the whole thing... meh, as long as the new owerns weren't insisting you remove it, I'd leave it instead.

The TORNVIKEN kitchen island (approx 50"x30.5") works great for kitchen work and seating two people.
Any ideas of how to extend it to support seating four people?
What IKEA countertop matches the island countertop? oak venner KARLBY? (74" x 42")
One thought I had was getting an additional countertop, and putting them side by side, but not sure 1) if it would support the weight? 2) how to best reinforce the additional surface area.

My first thought was to buy a second unit, that's the obvious solution. I don't know what you are worried about--each unit supports the weight it does separately. A second one next to the first will be no problem. The only possible exception I could see is if you wanted to place a piece of wood on the two to give it a unified look, and that could be done with 1/8" thick ply, since it doesn't actually support anything It is supported by the two units below. In fact, if you look at the IKEA website, they show two next to each other, something they wouldn't do if there would be a problem.

They sell worktops, so maybe you could get a custom cut for two or three pieces if you wanna make it drop-leaf. I'm assuming you only need hinges, and a few other bits after that. Check out SÄLJAN worktops. They do precut and custom.
