As long as the model in question is sold also at dealers like an xt1 Cub Cadet or some of the S Series John Deere, it's the same tractor. There are those that will tell you that you ought to buy at the dealer because if you have any problems, the Big Box store is just going to send you to the dealer for warranty work. Local dealer do repairs in house and often provide other perks and services (delivery reminders for maintenance etc) Tractor supply do not and any warranty will likely come from the manufacturer. You will then need to find a service center that accepts the warranty. That said you can still save the money and find a good center for maintenance that can also do warranty work. Also lawn mower honestly rarely need warranty work. I do my own service and maintenance so can’t speak to getting service done. If you go through TSC I recommend Toro. More on reddit.com

My perception is that the big box stores may not be lower quality, but lower assembly quality since they don’t come to stores set up. The odds of you getting one put together well is likely better at an implement dealer.

-So I've been looking around and had my eye on a few different riders but all have somewhat negative reviews.
Cub cadet xt1- Alot of bad things about them on forums from spindles, motors, etc. I currently have an older troy with kholer courage and it's been a good motor although has always smoked like a train. -Also looked at some Husqvarna and hear they are pretty good but weak frame and a bit more pricey. Alot of them have the same kholer motors so is it just better because of the bolt ons and build qual? -Jd are bad quality if bought from box stores? Actual dealer they are good? But also much higher than others. -Troy Bilt bad with belts and are same mfg as cub. (Mtd=bad)? Have no idea what to go with at this point.

No idea your yard situation but….I’ve seen a lot of blown up newer cub cadet xt1s on marketplace for some reason(must be a kohler thing) . But even entry level box store John Deere’s are a lot nicer than other brands from same box store . S130-s140 WITH a vtwin are a great value and basically bullet proof

I have been looking into buying a zero turn mower. I am conflicted between a local dealer or buying at tractor supply. Aside from the local dealers saying that buying from them is a better option because they service in house, should I consider tractor supply due to cheaper pricing. The real question I'm asking is if weather tractor supply will service at the store? Does there protection plan warranty do any good after you buy the mower or do they send you out to a servicer to have your equipment fixed? What are the perks of buying at a local dealer versus at tractor supply?
