Thanks Shawn - however you have misunderstood.

I know how to transfer domains between registrars and it requires work on both sides. One to release the domain and provide the transfer code from the sending registrar and then a process to initiate the receipt of the domain on the receiving side.

My question is that I cannot see how to receive a domain in O365. It looks like the only functions available are to:

  1. Create a new domain with msft as the registrar
  2. transfer the domain created in (1) out to another registrar that’s not msft.
  3. use an existing domain which is held elsewhere

there’s no option to transfer *in* a domain...

Hi South74,

I'm sorry to reply you late, I made more research on this issue. From what I got so far, this transferring can only be performed via PowerShell cmdlet and it's in Azure.

Please kindly refer to the following article in Github: Getting Started With Azure Domain Transfer from registrar.

Execute the transfer Close all other PowerShell windows and start a new one as an administrator. Navigate to the script directory and run the PS script: cd "C:...\azure-domain-transfer" .\DomainTransfer.ps1 Confirm the transfer When you get the confirmation email. Click the confirmation button Now you have to wait up to 5-7 days for the transfer to be complete.

Accept the transfer from your registrar (if you can) Some registrar let the owner of the domain cancel or confirm the transfer. It allows the operation to be completed before the 5-7 days.

Wait for the transfer to be complete... Wait and check the resource to be fullly available in you Azure portal.

Note: Currently you can only buy a domain from Office 365 but you can’t transfer your domain to as an Office 365 domain registrar as Wild West Domains LLC.

Best,

Shawn

r/microsoft365 on Reddit: Transfer Domain Registrar TO Microsoft 365
February 9, 2024 -

Hi All,

I see that you can purchase a domain in 365, move DNS SOA to 365, transfer a domain out of 365. But can you transfer a domain registration TO 365? Can't seem to see where you do that or documentation on that.

Hello Patel Sagar,

Thank you for posting your question in our forum.

From your description, if you want to have Microsoft set up and manage your domain's DNS records for you, you must firstly switch your domain's nameserver records to point to Microsoft 365, after that, Microsoft will set up your services for you and then your domain‘s DNS records are managed at Microsoft.

However, when you change your domain's NS records to point to the Microsoft name servers, all the services that are currently associated with your domain are affected. For example, all email sent to your domain will start coming to Microsoft after you make this change. In other words, you will not be able to continue to use the email service from GSuite.

For more detailed instructions, here is an article for your reference: Change nameservers to set up Microsoft 365 with any domain registrar.

Hello Jenifer,

Thank you for the swift response. My main concern is my e-mail services which is hosted at GSuite. So what are the steps I have to take to migrate my e-mail accounts from GSuite to Microsoft 365. I have total 9 mail account under my GSuite account. I have 3 licenses of Microsoft 365 business standard. So how can I do that and what I have to do?

I have 9 GSuite accounts so for that should I have to purchase more Microsoft 365 accounts or is there any other option available? Please guide my for the same. I am little bit confuse here.

Regards,

Patel Sagar

The easiest option is to pay a professional who has had experience doing this. The biggest issue I had was GoDaddy would not release the domain for so long, meaning there was a lot of downtime (emails bouncing) while 20 people kept saying it is released, there is propogation time, but they had not released it.
