Can I get the old "snap and scan" image translation method back in Google Translate?
Google translate text scan on PC?
What's the best app for taking photos and then translating to English?
Anybody here have a good camera translator app?

I installed the Google Translate app on my new phone (Pixel, Android 14) and noticed the photo translate feature has changed to be just the "instant translation" where it looks for text and translates live in your video feed.
I had access to the "snap and scan" method on my old phone (Moto, Android 9) and strongly favour it. It's much more stable and accurate for my purposes. I missed it enough that I tracked down the exact version of the app that I had on my old phone and installed it on my new one--only for it to somehow also only have the instant translation on my new phone now...
I installed that very same version on my tablet (a Samsung, also on Android 14), and somehow it works just fine on there!
Anyone got any suggestions or alternatives?
So when learning a foreign language that doesn't use the alphabet, I like to scan text using googletranslate on my phone so I can look up the word. However, when I come across text on my pc, I have to take out my phone and scan my pc screen, which is quite cumbersome. I'd much prefer to just scan the text on my pc. Is there a way to do this?
I'm currently using capture2text but the word recognition is so bad, it's astronomically less work to just take out my phone. I also tried uploading images onto the google translate website, but that only outputs a translated image rather than letting me scan the original text.
