I usually have more than 20 flights/year and been flying with Airpod Pro since the first one came out. Got the Pro 2 and upgraded to the Comply foam tips. Did a decent job block out noise but very uncomfortable for flights over 2 hours. Just got the QC Ultra, will have my first flight with it this week. Fingers crossed oh, I’ll be pairing it with the Ostrich neck pillow. Hopefully they fit and match well. Answer from tule93 on reddit.com

Can noise-cancelling headphones for airplane travel cause ear pressure?
Some users may experience slight ear pressure with active noise-cancelling headphones due to changes in cabin pressure combined with ANC. However, soundcore Travel Headphones are designed to minimize discomfort through ergonomic ear cups and pressure-relieving cushions. The over-ear design also means that over-ear headphones can alleviate ear pressure during flights by creating a gentle seal that helps balance internal and external air pressure. Using ANC intermittently or adjusting fit can further help reduce any sensation of pressure during takeoff or descent.

I see people say to get noise canceling headphones for the on flight entertainment. I’m not tech savvy at all. I don’t want to spent too much if I can avoid it. Any specific ones you’d suggest? How do I know what kind of plug they need to be? Thanks for helping out.

July 1, 2025 - Their UX series is great for Bluetooth sound, in either the UX2000 or the UX3000. Of the two, I would recommend the UX3000 first. It is the later model and comes with updated Bluetooth codecs and overall smoother sound. I like the attention to detail in the UX3000, as well as the included carrying bag to keep the headphones in good condition throughout travel.

Still trying to figure out what the best headphones are for sleeping on an airplane with a neck cushion. Bose QC or Bose QC Ultra? My AirPods Pro 2 and my Denon Pro Perl did a decent job, but I'm scared it would fall out of my ear.

I tried a cheaper Bluetooth headphone on a flight and later a Bower and Wilkins Px7 S2. The B&W had great wireless sound but underwhelming noise cancellation for jet travel. I then bought and still use a Bose QC Ultra. It is magical how it makes the jet flights silent and the music extremely clear. The sound quality is also impressive. Right now you can save a bunch on Amazon and get the Bose QC for $250. It also has great sound and ANC. If you need to watch your pennies, this is the perfect option for you.

May 23, 2022 - I have a USB-C dongle to watch movies on my iPad, a 4.4mm to 3.5mm adapter and a dual pin airplane adapter when those are required to watch movies using the plane monitor. Otherwise, I just use the Sony WF-1000 XM4 which I use primarily for phone calls, but the noise cancellation is fantastic.

October 23, 2025 - Not every pair of headphone's “noise-canceling” feature is created equal. For travel, you want very strong low-frequency suppression that can help reduce the drone of engines, air conditioning hum, subway rumble, and bus vibrations. A top-tier ANC (active noise cancelation) system uses multiple microphones, adaptive algorithms that adjust to atmospheric pressure (especially useful in airplanes), and smart detection of your surroundings.
