Trivial - Definition, Meaning & Synonyms | Vocabulary.com
Trivial can also describe something that isn't deep or meaningful, like a trivial movie that you'll forget about after the credits roll. It comes from the Latin word trivium: tri means "three" and via is "road." So a trivium is a "place where three roads meet," meaning a crossroads — just something ordinary.

Trivial

"Trivial insult" meaning?

Without a context I can't give you a good answer. Where did you see it used?

Trivial is something small or unimportant.

Insult is a put down or something impolite said about someone or something.

(Native speaker) I have never seen the two words put together so I can't see where I would use it!

Why do people often converse about trivial things instead of the universe, philosophy or the meaning of life?

r/ENGLISH on Reddit: Trivial
October 25, 2024 -

I recently described something as being “trivial” and was told that this word carries a negative connotation. I’m used to using this word when talking about technical or security issues.

For example, “finding your ip address is trivial.” Meaning, the effort to do it is extremely low. In this case, there’s nothing inherently negative about being able to look up an ip address extremely easily. (Well, depending on the context, it could be positive or negative.) Or, another example: “with ai tools, it’s trivially easy to write quick summaries of common topics.”

Is this use of the word in a positive / neutral context unique to the space I’m in? Does it more commonly have a negative connotation to it?

Edit: for example, on https://www.dictionary.com/browse/trivial the first definition is "of very little importance or value; insignificant" which does seem to be a negative sort of thing?
