What are 3 beautiful tropical plants that you grow here in the valley?

Try these guys in Apache Junction. They have all kinds of good stuff- mango, guava, papaya, bananas, a whole bunch of other stuff. I'd also include Madagascar ocotillo. And many palms, including the Bismarck palm, although you need some serious room for that. I have neighbors with rubber trees growing outside year-round, planted in the ground. There is also one tiny area in metro Phoenix that has banyan growing outdoors. It must be an interesting little microclimate, they seems to be doing well even in the summer. I don't know which species of Ficus, probably F. benghalensis as that's what they have at the Phoenix Zoo. Depending upon what you call "tropical," you might include "elephant food," Portulacaria afra, which is a very easy grower outdoors, and does OK indoors given high light. Not really found within the tropics, but still has that tropical look to it. More on reddit.com

Maybe not the most exotic looking but definitely feels crazy: vanilla. The fact that vanilla beans come from orchids and that you can grow vanilla orchids indoors is just wild to me. That and pineapples just seem so weird because normally you would think of those as only growing outdoors. More on reddit.com
