Tropicals are generally not frost tolerant. They’ll die the first time your temps drop below 32 degrees. We are in 8b and have some bananas that regrow each year after freezing back, but it’s rare they have enough time to bloom and produce fruit before it freezes again the next winter. You could try some dwarf varieties and keep them in pots that can move indoors (or a greenhouse) over the winter. But they still need a lot of light. Answer from Fantastic-Sky6111 on reddit.com

I would love to grow plants like banana, mangoes etc but seems like the only fruit plants that people seem to grow are stone fruits. Any advice if it's even worth trying?

Maybe hardy figs? Also with the right greenhouse setup, maybe. It helps to have a lot of sunny days too.
